CBB Visit: Washington vs. Stanford at Safeco Field

Safeco Field's left field

This year’s home game for the Huskies at Safeco Field drew 2,258 fans under a closed roof, not as as big a crowd as in some past years, but the Huskies got an excellent performance by RHP Andrew Kittredge; 7 1/3 innings pitched, one run on six hits, and eight strikeouts, three of them in the second inning, when the Cardinal scored their only run on an RBI single by C Zach Jones.

The Huskies got all the runs they needed in the first inning. C Pierce Rankin opened the scoring with an RBI single, then 3B Jacob Lamb scored the winning run on a throwing error. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is your SEC Recap for May 1st.

Auburn's Hunter Morris gets a hit in the 7th inning.
South Carolina vs Auburn baseball on Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Auburn, Ala.
Todd Van Emst Auburn 8 #7 Arkansas 7

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Auburn blasted four home runs in an eight-run fifth inning, two coming off the bat of Hunter Morris, before hanging on for an 8-7 win over No. 7 Arkansas at Baum Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Slade Smith picked up his first career SEC win in relief as Auburn improved to 29-15, 11-9 SEC and evened the series with SEC West leading Arkansas (35-9, 14-6) with its first Saturday win at Baum Stadium since 2004.

Auburn, which came into the day as the top offense in the SEC with a .348 team batting average and a SEC-best 74 home runs, had to overcome an early three-run deficit before holding off the second-best offense in the SEC, which stranded the game-tying and game-winning runs in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth.

Here is your Southland Conference Recap for April 30th. Courtesy of the Southland Conference.

ClintDempsterNicholls Nicholls 5, Southeastern Louisiana 3
THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls junior left hander Clint Dempster delivered a dominant performance Friday night in a 5-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the opener of a three-game Southland Conference series. The junior struck out 16 and allowed just one earned run in turning in his third complete game of the season.

The Colonel defense committed a pair of costly errors that led to unearned runs in the first and second innings as the Colonels fell behind 2-0. However, Dempster took control the rest of the way. The Thibodaux native didn’t allow a runner to reach second base from the third through the sixth innings and fanned 16 Lion batters, bettering his previous career high of 11 set April 2 at UT Arlington.

FAYETTEVILLE – For the second time in three starts, Drew Smyly tossed a complete game to lead the No. 7 University of Arkansas baseball team to a 9-4 win over Auburn Friday night at Baum Stadium. Arkansas (35-8, 14-5 SEC) fell behind early but Brett Eibner jumpstarted the Razorback offense in the fifth inning with his 15th home run of the season and Collin Kuhn drove in the game-winning run in the sixth. Despite the threat of rain, an announced-crowd of 7,246 fans witnessed the come-from-behind victory.

"Smyly did an excellent job," head coach Dave Van Horn said. "I feel lucky that we didn’t give up more than two runs in the inning that we gave him five outs, but he was definitely the key from the fourth inning on."
