NCBWA May 3 Division I Poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 13th year with its 2010
weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 22-June 29 following the 64th annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb., and final CWS competition at historic Rosenblatt Stadium.

Phillips 66 Big 12 Player & Pitcher of the Week

Danny Black (Oklahoma) has earned the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week award, while Kansas’ T.J. Walz has received the Pitcher of the Week accolade for games of April 26-May 2, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. Walz is honored for the second time in his career (April 6, 2009).

ACC Players of the Week

Gosselin GREENSBORO, N.C. – Top-ranked Virginia, which currently owns a 10-game winning streak, swept ACC Baseball honors for the week ending May 2.  Junior second baseman Phil Gosselin was voted the ACC Player of the Week, while sophomore Danny Hultzen claimed Pitcher of the Week honors.

The ACC hits leader with 77, Gosselin had hits in all five games (including four multiple-hit games) as Virginia completed a perfect week.

Big Ten Players of the Week

Snyder captures Penn State’s second consecutive Player of the Week honor and the first of his career after leading the Nittany Lions to a series sweep against Michigan State, who entered the weekend tied for the Big Ten lead. Snyder hit .667 in the series while driving in and scoring six runs over the three-game set. He also stole three bases and knocked a triple as he upped his season average by nearly 50 points, now hitting at a .354 clip. Snyder recorded multiple hits in each of his four games last week, beginning with a 2-for-4 performance vs. La Salle on Tuesday. He then went 3-for-6, 4-for-5 and 3-for-4 in the weekend sweep against the Spartans, giving him six consecutive multi-hit games. Snyder’s best game came on Saturday when he tied his career high with four hits, driving in three runs and scoring four. Since moving to second in the batting order in his last six games, the outfielder has improved his average by 76 points, currently ranking fourth on the team.

AuburnBaseball1 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Grant Dayton struck out 10 in what was a brilliant outing by the junior southpaw and the Auburn bats erupted for 13 runs on 16 hits to claim a 13-2 win over No. 7 Arkansas at Baum Stadium on Sunday and move to within two games of first place in the SEC West with three conference weekends remaining, two of which Auburn will play at home. Auburn’s record stands at 30-15 overall and 12-9 SEC while Arkansas remains in first in the SEC West with a 35-10, 14-7 SEC mark.

"Today was a very important game for a lot of reasons. We talk about `Championship Sunday’ and in my opinion it starts with the guy you got on the mound," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "Grant Dayton was outstanding today. Between him and Sean Ray we only walked two guys all day. We kept them off balance. This is a big win for us in this environment."

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 1-ranked Virginia baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep of Duke Sunday afternoon with a 10-6 victory over the Blue Devils at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. Virginia won its 10th-consecutive game while pushing its ACC win streak to six.

Virginia (39-9, 18-6 ACC), after taking all three games from Maryland last week, has swept back-to-back ACC road series for the first time since sweeping Duke (April 2-4) and Maryland (April 16-18) in 2004. It was Virginia’s first back-to-back ACC sweeps since doing so in home series versus Boston College (March 21-23) and Virginia Tech (March 28-30) in 2008.
