CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 1 Virginia baseball team clinched at least a share of the ACC Coastal Division regular-season championship with a 3-1 win at No. 14 Miami Friday night at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. The Cavaliers (44-10, 22-7 ACC), with their school-record 22nd ACC win, have a one-game lead over Georgia Tech heading into the final day of ACC play.

Virginia, by virtue of its head-to-head series win with Georgia Tech, also clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship, which is slated for next Wednesday through Sunday at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. UVa last finished atop the ACC regular-season standings in 1985; the Cavaliers also were ACC regular-season champions in 1972.

Clemson, SC – Scott Weismann and David Haselden combined to limit the Seminoles to only five hits and #22 Clemson used a six-run third inning to defeat #7 Florida State 8-4 in front of 4,495 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night. The Tigers, who took a 2-0 series lead, improved to 36-19 overall and 17-12 in the ACC. The Seminoles, who lost back-to-back games for just the third time all season, fell to 39-15 overall and 18-11.

Weismann (6-2) earned the win by allowing just three hits, three runs, and four walks with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. David Haselden pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and one run.

#26 North Carolina 5 #17 Virginia Tech 3

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Colin Bates tossed six shutout innings of relief as North Carolina rallied past No. 12 Virginia Tech 5-3 Friday night at Boshamer Stadium. Carolina scored all five of their runs in the final three innings to improve to 35-20 overall and 13-16 in the ACC.

Bates (6-2) dazzled in six shutout innings of relief, allowing just three hits and tying a career-high with seven strikeouts. Starter Chris Munnelly lasted just three innings after allowing three runs on four hits. Neither Carolina hurler issued a walk.

NC State 7 Duke 6 (12 innings)

RALEIGH, N.C. – Andrew Ciencin’s two-out double drove in Kyle Wilson with the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning Friday night to lift NC State past Duke 7-6 in the second game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Doak Field at Dail Park. With the victory, the Wolfpack clinched the series win and moved one step closer to securing a berth in next week’s ACC Tournament in Greensboro.

With the win the Wolfpack improved to 35-20 overall and 14-15 in the conference. The Blue Devils dropped to 29-26 and 8-21 in the ACC. Grant Sasser (3-3) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief, striking out three and giving up two hits. Ben Grisz drops to 3-3 with the loss.

Wake Forest 13 Maryland 1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest starter Michael Dimock allowed just one run over 7.0 solid innings, while Matt Conway and Mike Murray each homered as the Demon Deacons defeated Maryland 13-1 on Friday night at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

Wake Forest evens the series and improves to 17-37 overall and 7-22 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Maryland drops to 17-38 and 5-24 in the ACC.
