Week six of WAC play sees a change at the top of the standings at Fresno State swept league leader New Mexico State to move percentage points ahead of the Aggies in the standings. New Mexico State holds a half game lead on the Bulldogs but Fresno State’s slightly higher winning percentage would give the Bulldogs the top seed if the season were to end today.

STANDINGS
1. Fresno State (30-20, 11-5)
2. New Mexico State (35-16-1, 13-6-1)
3. Nevada (27-18-1, 8-7-1)
4. Louisiana Tech (25-23, 10-10)
T5. Hawai’i (23-22, 6-10)
T5. San Jose State (18-29, 6-10)
7. Sacramento State (16-29-1, 5-11)

SERIES OF THE WEEK
Hawai’i (23-22, 6-10) vs. New Mexico State (35-16-1, 13-6-1)
Les Murakami Stadium, Honolulu, HI

The Aggies are coming off a sweep at the hands of Fresno State that dropped them percentage points behind the Bulldogs for first place. Hawai’i has had a two week layoff after not playing during their conference bye week. The Warriors have been average at home this season with a 16-15 record. The Warriors will be looking for at least a split with the Aggies to keep their hopes of reaching the conference tournament alive.

Prediction: The Aggie pitching staff has been very good on the road and in the pitcher friendly confines of Les Murakami, we think the Aggies will rebound from their sweep to take three of four from the Warriors who will continue to underachieve.

Game One: Thu., May 13, 6:35 p.m. HT
Game Two/Three: Fri., May 14, 3:35 p.m. HT

Fresno State (30-20, 11-5) vs. San Jose State (18-29, 6-10)
Pete Beiden Field, Fresno, CA

The Bulldogs completed an impressive four game sweep of New Mexico State to put themselves in position to earn the number one seed in the WAC tournament with two series weekends left. The Bulldogs are at home for their final eight conference games. San Jose State narrowly avoided getting swept on the road at Nevada as they rallied to win in extra innings in their final game with the Wolf Pack. San Jose State is looking to keep pace with Hawai’i as both squads are still in danger of missing the WAC tournament.

Prediction: The Bulldogs will be looking to add to their lead in the WAC this weekend after coming off a sweep. San Jose State has struggled to gain any traction this season in conference play. We think Fresno State will continue their roll and take three of four from the visiting Spartans.

Game One: Fri., May 14, 6:00 p.m. PT
Game Two/Three: Sat., May 15, 2:00 p.m. PT

Sacramento State (16-29-1, 5-11) vs. Nevada (27-18-1, 8-7-1)
Hornet Field, Sacramento, CA

The Hornets were swept in a season series for the second time this season as Louisiana Tech pounded the Hornets in the first two games of the series. Nevada nearly pulled off a sweep but came up just short as they lost the final game of their series with San Jose State in extra innings. Nevada has put themselves in a position to earn the number two seed in the WAC Tournament and is still in mathematical contention for the league title.

Prediction: Nevada is one of the hotter teams in the league right now and Sacramento State is headed in the opposite direction. We think Nevada will take three of four from the Hornets.

Game One: Fri., May 14, 2:30 p.m. PT
Game Two/Three: Sat., May 15, 11:30 a.m. PT
Game Four: Sun., May 16, 1:00 p.m. PT
