Virginia 10 VCU 5
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 1-ranked Virginia baseball team defeated VCU, 10-5, Tuesday night at Davenport Field, running its winning streak to 11 games as it enters a nine-day break for final exams. Virginia upped its record to 40-9, marking the earliest the Cavaliers have hit the 40-win plateau.
Virginia’s offense continued to click as the Cavaliers scored in double figures for the fifth straight game and the ninth time during the 11-game win streak. Jarrett Parker (Jr., Stafford, Va.) homered, tripled and drove in three, while Phil Gosselin (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) and Steven Proscia (So., Suffern, N.Y.) each had two hits.
#8 Florida State 11 Jacksonville 10 (13 innings)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fifth-ranked Florida State (34-11) defeated Jacksonville (20-19) 11-10 in 13 innings Tuesday night on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. Mike McGee came through with the game-winner in the bottom of the 13th singling back up the middle to score Tyler Holt from second to give the Seminoles the walk-off victory in the rubber game of the series against the Dolphins.
After going 39 games without a walk-off victory, the Seminoles now have three in their last six contests including two off the bat of McGee.
Davidson 14 #18 Virginia Tech 10
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman third baseman Andrew Barna batted 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI, and junior right-hander Andy Bass held the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies hitless over the final 2 2/3 innings, to lead Davidson to a 14-10 win Tuesday night in non-conference play at English Field.
It is the first time Davidson (19-26) has defeated a ranked team since 2006, when they defeated then-ranked No. 24 Wake Forest 9-5, and the first time Davidson has beaten two ACC opponents in one season since 2005, when the Wildcats knocked off Wake Forest (twice) and Duke. Davidson defeated Duke, 4-2, on April 13 in Durham.

#22 Clemson 14 Florida Gulf Coast 2
Clemson, SC – Behind seven runs with two outs in the second inning, #24 Clemson blasted Florida Gulf Coast 14-2 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers, who won the series 3-1, improved to 28-17. The Eagles, who suffered their third loss in a row for the first time in 2010, dropped to 28-16.
Junior righthander Alex Frederick (3-1) earned the victory in his first start as a Tiger. The Lagrangeville, NY native allowed four hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched. Scott Firth, Kevin Kyle, and Josh Thrailkill combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings without allowing a run.

#24 North Carolina 17 Elon 7
CHAPEL HILL, N.C – No. 24 North Carolina scored 11 runs over the last two innings to topple Elon 17-7 Tuesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Mike Cavasinni notched four of the Tar Heels 18 hits as Carolina improved to 28-17 on the year. Elon’s Ken Ferrer suffers the loss allowing six runs as the Phoenix drops to 30-18 this season.
Colin Bates (4-2) earned the win, tossing 3.1 innings of relief and allowing just one run. Starter Patrick Johnson allowed three runs on three hits in 3.2 frames of work. Zach Bernard, Nate Striz and Bryant Gaines combined to allow three runs in two innings of relief.
Maryland 10 Towson 5
TOWSON, Md. – Gary Schneider went 4-for-4 and Maryland cranked out 13 of its 15 hits in the first five innings on the way to a 10-5 victory over Towson Wednesday afternoon.
Maryland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and batted around in the fifth, scoring six runs to take a commanding lead.
Schneider, a freshman who had his first multiple-hit game last Friday against Miami, recorded two hits in the fifth inning alone against Towson. He led off the inning with a double, his third of the game, and capped it off with an RBI single that plated Maryland’s sixth run of the inning.
Boston College 12 Northeastern 6
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Mike Sudol hit a pair of three-run homers to propel the Boston College baseball team past Northeastern, 12-6, Tuesday afternoon at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.
Sudol doubled his home run total for the season to four and his six RBI was a career high. It was the second time in his career that he hit two homers with the other coming at Duke on April 26 of last year.
Sophomore Anthony Melchionda drove in a pair of runs and scored twice for the Eagles while junior Garret Smith hit a two-run double and walked two times. Sophomore Brad Zapenas went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
