#1 Texas 4 Baylor 2

The No. 2 Texas Longhorns overcame a mid-game deficit and won in extra inning fashion as they came to life to break a 2-2 stalemate in the 10th to post a 4-2 win over the Baylor Bears Friday night at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas.

With the win, the Longhorns stretch their overall winning streak to 18, and extend their conference winning streak to 15 while improving to an overall record of 36-7 and 17-2 in the Big 12. Coupled with a loss by Kansas State, the Horns lead in the conference ballooned to six games.

Cohl Walla led off the top of the winning inning with a single to left field, followed by Brandon Loy reaching on a walk to place runners at first and second. A single by Tant Shepherd loaded the bases, and with one out pinch-hitter Paul Montalbano outlasted Bears pitcher Kolt Browder for the walk, bringing in Walla for the go-ahead run. Kevin Keyes added insurance with a sac fly to center field, driving in Loy for the 4-2 score.

Reliever Chance Ruffin held off the Bears in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win for the Horns, posting three strikeouts while allowing one hit, a walk and no runs.

The Longhorns struck first in the top of the second. Cameron Rupp singled to centerfield, advanced to second with a sac bunt by Russell Moldenhauer, and to third as Keyes grounded out. A single to third by Kevin Lusson sent Rupp home for the opening score. FULL STORY

#15 Oklahoma 14 #24 Kansas State 3

No. 15 Oklahoma received timely hitting from the offense and another strong start from Zach Neal as it opened the series with No. 20 Kansas State on Friday with a 14-3 victory at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Sooners improved to 31-11 overall and 9-8 in Big 12 play and dropped No. 20 Kansas State, which sat two spots ahead of them in second place entering Friday’s contest, to 29-12 and 9-6.

Garrett Buechele posted career highs for hits (5) and RBIs (5) as the OU offense continued its recent torrid pace against the opposition. OU has scored in double digits in the last three games and combined for 38 runs during that stretch of the current four-game winning streak. Buechele, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games, knocked in two of the OU’s six two-out RBIs on Friday.

“Buechele is just a mature hitter. He understands the game, he attacks the game,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “He doesn’t get too high or too low. He has to help bring some of our other guys along as well.” FULL STORY

Kansas 17 at Oklahoma State 3

Junior right-handed pitcher T.J. Walz struck out a season high 11 hitters, and took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, while KU’s offense pounded 20 hits, including four each by Brandon Macias, Brian Heere and Tony Thompson as the Jayhawks routed Oklahoma State 17-3 in a Big 12 baseball game Friday evening at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The Jayhawks snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 26-17-1 overall and 7-8-1 in the Big 12, while the Cowboys fall to 24-18 and 5-11 in conference play.

Walz was dominant in his first start in Stillwater since his freshman season. The junior righty held the second-best offense in the Big 12 hitless through the first eight innings. Following a two-out walk to Kevin Chambers in the second inning, the junior did not allow another base runner until the seventh, setting down 13 Cowboys in a row.

Oklahoma State didn’t record its first hit until Duren Davis beat out an infield single to lead off the ninth. Walz was looking to become the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, and the first Jayhawk to toss a no-hitter in a conference game since 1957. FULL STORY

Missouri 12 Texas Tech 8
Mizzou improved to 4-1 in extra inning games this season by defeating Texas Tech 12-8 in 11 innings on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Lubbock, Texas. It was the second-straight extra-inning win in Big 12 play for the Tigers.

With the score tied at eight, the first four Tigers to the plate in the top of the 11th all reached, starting with back-to-back singles from senior Aaron Senne and junior Brett Nicholas. Junior Andrew Thigpen, who was inserted as a pinch hitter, reached on an error as he was attempting to sacrifice. Freshman Dane Opel followed with a two-run single to score the go-ahead runs. The Tigers tacked on two more runs on a sacrifice fly from redshirt freshman Andreas Plackis and an RBI double from freshman Eric Garcia and held on for the 12-8 victory.

“It was a great team win,” Head Coach Tim Jamieson said. “We had so many guys contribute. Several guys had timely hits and drove in runs. We had to use a lot of guys out of the bullpen. It looked like it was going to be our game early on, but we knew they would battle back.”

Missouri had built a 7-0 lead before Tech began to chip away and eventually tie it in the ninth inning to force extra innings.

Garcia hit his fourth home run of the season to put the first run of the game on the board in the top of the third inning. The Tigers (23-17, 7-8 Big 12) added three more runs in the third inning, including a two-run double by Nicholas, which extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Nicholas has had a hit in 31 of the 39 games he’s played in this season. He finished the game 2-for-5 and has had at least two hits in 13 of the 16 games during his streak. FULL STORY

Texas A&M 6 at Nebraska 1

Barret Loux allowed one hit over seven strong innings to lead Texas A&M to a 6-1 win over Nebraska Friday night before 3,571 fans at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Loux (7-2) escaped a first-and-third, no-out jam in the first with strikeouts of the Huskers’ three through five hitters. After that, NU threatened briefly in the second and was unable to muster any offense until pushing its only run across with a two-out single in the seventh. John Stilson then fanned five of the six batters he faced over the final two innings to close out the game.

With the win, the Aggies improved to 24-16-1 and 8-10-1 in Big 12 play. Nebraska fell to 19-23 and 6-13.

“Barret was able to get through the first and second innings and we were able to score first,” A&M coach Rob Childress said. “He was just outstanding tonight.”

Scoreless into the third, A&M began the inning with a lead single and an RBI double to the wall in left by Brodie Greene. After Greene scored on a passed ball, Joe Patterson lifted a single to left to make the score 3-0.

A passed ball and wild pitch would plate two more Aggie runs in the fourth to increase the lead to five, and Matt Juengel launched a long home run to left field in the seventh for a 6-0 lead. FULL STORY
