MazonniNC State #2 Virginia 11 Duke 1

DURHAM, N.C. – Behind huge games from Robert Morey (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jarrett Parker (Jr., Stafford, Va.), the top-ranked Virginia baseball team defeated Duke, 11-1, Saturday afternoon at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. The victory stretched the Cavaliers’ season-long win streak to nine games and clinched UVa’s seventh ACC series win this year.

Morey (7-1) pitched his first career complete game, marking the Cavaliers’ second straight complete game after Danny Hultzen (So., Bethesda, Md.) went the distance Friday night. It is the first time Cavalier pitchers have thrown back-to-back complete games since Jacob Thompson and Pat McAnaney did so March 28-29, 2008 against Virginia Tech.

NC State 4 #4 Georgia Tech 2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Cory Mazonni threw 4 1/3 no-hit innings, striking out five en route to a 4-2 win over sixth-ranked Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.NC State wins the series by virtue of winning the first two games.

All nine starting position players for the Wolfpack reached base, with Drew Poulk going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.  The Wolfpack defense turned three double plays, tying their season high.

Game 1: LeMoyne 3 #8 FSU 1 (Resumption of 4/30 Game)

Tallahassee, Fla. – Junior right-hander Jeff Tardiff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) tossed four scoreless innings as the Le Moyne College baseball team held off fourth-ranked Florida State, 3-1, in the completion of Friday night’s suspended game at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The game was series opener was suspended on Friday night after five innings due to poor field conditions.

After three scoreless innings on Friday night, the Dolphins struck for three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Zach Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) led off the frame with a single to center off former high school teammate Sean Gilmartin. Following a wild pitch that moved him to second, Wiley advanced to third on a sac bunt by sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) then singled to right field to drive in Wiley. Senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead by blasting the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left field for his 10th home run of the season.

Game 2: #8 FSU 8 LeMoyne 5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fourth-ranked Florida State (32-11) scored seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings and survived a bases loaded scare in the top of the ninth to hang on for an 8-5 victory over Le Moyne (25-24) in game two Saturday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.

Mike McGee and Jayce Boyd drove in seven of the eight runs, while Tyler Holt, Stephen Cardullo and McGee finished the game with two hits a piece and were responsible for six of the seven hits posted by the Seminoles on Saturday.

#14 Miami FL 6 Maryland 4

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 11 Miami picked up another Atlantic Coast Conference series win with a 6-4 victory over Maryland Saturday night at Alex Rodriguez Park. Starter Jason Santana tied a career-high with seven innings pitched, keeping the Terrapins off the board over his last five innings after allowing three early runs.

The win was Miami’s 10th straight against an ACC opponent at home. The Hurricanes (33-11, 17-6 ACC) have now won each of their four ACC home series this season.

#21 Virginia Tech 3 Boston College 1

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Mathew Price pitched his second complete game of the season and redshirt freshman Andrew Rash provided the go-ahead runs as Virginia Tech assured itself another Atlantic Coast Conference series win with a 3-1 victory over Boston College at English Field on Saturday afternoon.

Tech, which won game one of the series 9-4 Friday night, improved its overall record to 31-14. The Hokies now stand 13-10 in ACC action. The 13 league wins are a new record for Tech, surpassing the previous mark of 12 established last season. Boston College fell to 24-19 overall and 12-11 in league play with the loss.

Florida Gulf Coast 4 #23 Clemson 2

CLEMSON, S.C. – Another great pitching performance from left hander Chris Sale (Lakeland, Fla.) moved the FGCU baseball team past No. 23 Clemson, 4-2, on Saturday evening in Clemson, S.C at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Juniors Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Luke Smierciak (Gainesville, Fla.) each recorded two-run home runs for the Eagles.

The A-Sun Conference leading Eagles improved their overall record to 28-13 (17-4 A-Sun), while No. 23 Clemson dropped to 25-17 overall (11-10 ACC).

Fresh off an FGCU record setting 15 strikeout outing, A-Sun Preseason Pitcher of the Year Chris Sale had another noteworthy performance in the game one start. Improving his record to 7-0 on the year with the win, the junior lefty went eight full innings and allowed just two earned runs on four hits, with 10 strikeouts against the nationally ranked Tigers. Sale now has 103 strikeouts on the season with just 11 walks in 75 innings pitched. Allowing two hits, junior Jack Wagoner (Berlin, Conn.) pitched one inning of scoreless baseball, earning his eighth save of the season in relief of Sale.
