ACC Recap for April 23rd

BLACKSBURG, Va. The 20th-ranked Virginia Tech baseball team scored twice in the top of the 11th inning to claim a 3-1 victory over third-ranked Georgia Tech in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball action on Friday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The win improved Virginia Tech to 27-13 overall and 10-9 in the ACC, and also marked the Hokies’ sixth win over a top-10 team in the past 10 conference games. Georgia Tech, which entered the game as the league’s top offensive team and ranked among the nation’s top 10 in six offensive categories, fell to 33-6 overall and 15-4 in the ACC. It was only the Yellow Jackets’ second loss at home this season (22-2).

CBB Visit: Rutgers at UConn (April 23rd)

SpringerGeorgeUConn We made the trip down to Storrs today to take in the first game of the UConn-Rutgers series. Rutgers entered the series with a 21-13 overall record while being 10-2 in Big East conference play. UConn entered the game with a 30-7 overall record while also being 10-2 in Big East play. Junior LHP Elliot Glynn (3-2, 2.45 ERA) got the ball for the Huskies while Rutgers sent freshman Jerry Elsing (2-0, 5.65 ERA).

WAC Weekend Preview (04/22-04/25)

Week three in the WAC sees the top two teams, New Mexico State and Sacramento State, squaring off in Sacramento.  Fresno State travels to Nevada and Hawai’i visits Louisiana Tech.  The San Jose State Spartans take their weekend away from the WAC and travel to Wichita, KS to take on the Shockers of Wichita State.

Pac-10 Weekend Preview (April 23rd-25th)

Pac10-Logo The Pac-10 heads into their fifth weekend of conference action with the big series being the #7 ranked UCLA Bruins taking on the #16th ranked Arizona Wildcats in Tucson. The only other conference series featuring ranked squads facing off is #25 Cal visiting archrival #30 Stanford. SEC Weekend Preview (April 23rd-25th)

The SEC starts off the second half of the conference season with a couple of key matchups. The best Friday night pitching matchup is between LSU RHP Anthony Ranaudo and Ole Miss LHP Drew Pomeranz who are both projected to be Top 10 picks in the 2010 MLB Draft. The Tigers enter the series with a national ranking of #5 in the country while Ole Miss is 23rd in the latest NCBWA poll. The other series to feature two ranked squads is when the #6 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks make the trip to Gainesville to take on the #12 ranked Florida Gators. The other series of the weekend sees #14 South Carolina visiting Georgia, #15 Vanderbilt taking on intrastate rival Tennessee, Kentucky going to Auburn, and Mississippi State taking on the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. ACC Weekend Preview (April 23rd-25th)

The ACC enters the stretch run this weekend as there are only four series left for each squad. The big series of the weekend sees the Virginia Tech Hokies heading down to Georgia Tech. The other two ACC series with ranked teams facing off are Miami (FL) visiting Florida State and UNC at Clemson. CCBL All-Star Game to return to Fenway

FROM CCBL RELEASE

BOSTON, MA – The Cape Cod Baseball  League All-Star Game will take place on Wed, July 28, 2010 at 7:05 p.m. at Fenway Park.  The family friendly event will feature a pre-game Home Run Derby, autograph session with the all-stars, and a silent auction filled with baseball memorabilia.  Discounted concession items will also be available.

James Paxton Lands With Grand Prairie Airhogs

James-Paxton James Paxton’s long and complicated road has led him to the American Association of Independent Baseball. Paxton was drafted 37th overall last season by the Toronto Blue Jays, and will now be playing for a much lesser known Grand Prairie Airhogs. According to the article, there’s a good chance if Paxton would have signed, he would have been up with the team as early as late 2009 to become their closer of the future.

His coach in Grand Prairie, Pete Incaviglia, had this to say about what Paxton will face competition wise, and where he’s headed:

CBB Column: 2010 NCAA Regional Projections (April 22nd)

The College Baseball Blog continues our weekly countdown to the release of the 2010 NCAA Regional Brackets. The brackets are done as if the NCAA Tournament was set to start today. I ended up using Boyd’s World RPI which was updated through games on Tuesday as that was the latest available. The RPI changes dramatically every week especially before some of the schools start the conference campaign. You can check out the full bracket below which is our best estimate if the tournament started today.

Interview with Garrett Regan of Oklahoma City

Garrett ReganGarrett Regan is a Senior first baseman for the Oklahoma City University Stars, currently ranked #3 in the NAIA and leading the Sooner Athletic Conference. Garrett is batting .366 with six home runs and 39 RBI. He was drafted in the 50th round out of high school. The Stars have a key matchup at Lubbock Christian this weekend.

Bob Broughton, CBB: How did you get from Calgary to Oklahoma City University?

Garrett Regan: OCU Coach Keith Lytle and my coach from the Prairie Baseball Academy, Blair Kubicek, have known each other a long time and while I was playing in Lethbridge they needed an outfielder here at OCU. BATON ROUGE – Shortstop Austin Nola knocked in three runs, and No.5 LSU staged a two-out rally in the eighth inning, breaking a 6-6 tie to beat No.30 Northwestern State, 8-6, Wednesday night in Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (32-6) are on a six-game winning streak and remain undefeated in mid-week contests this season. Northwestern State dropped to 25-12 with the loss.
