MattSzcur Here is some of the stuff we have learned from the mid-week action on Tuesday.

The LSU Tigers had an absolutely terrible loss to New Orleans in Baton Rouge. The Privateers scored four runs over the last two innings to grab the 7-4 victory over the Tigers in the likely last matchup between the schools as UNO heads down to Division 3 next season.

Matt Szczur went a perfect 5-5 at the plate with four runs scored and drove in five RBI as he lead the Villanova Wildcats to a 17-10 victory over cross-town rival Temple. In his first two at-bats, he hit two doubles before adding a triple, a two run-homer, and a seventh inning single to complete the cycle. Szczur is currently leading the team in hitting with a .439 batting average while hitting two homers and driving in 33 runs. Szczur was a FCS All-American in football in the fall and is expected to lead the Wildcats on the gridiron in the 2010 season also.

The San Diego Toreros had the Cal-State Fullerton Titans right where they needed them on Tuesday with Cal-State down 10-9 with two outs in the ninth and noone on base. Then the following happened:

Richie Pedroza bounced a grounder up the middle for his fourth hit of the game, followed by Christian Colon grabbing a walk and then Gary Brown was credited with an infield single when shortstop Zach Walters threw late to third trying to force Pedroza. Carlos Lopez hit San Diego closer Matt Hauser’s first pitch on a line less than a yard fair and less than a yard over the right-field fence at the 329-foot sign.

UC-Riverside picked up a victory over UNLV on Tuesday by a score of 18-10. Justin Shults went 5-of-6 with three homers, four runs scored, and four runs batted in. He is currently leading the team in hitting at .410 with nine homers and 30 RBI. He is also slugging at a .781 clip.

UCLA picked up a key non-conference victory over UC-Irvine on Tuesday by a score of 4-1. The star of the game for the Bruins was Garrett Claypool who pitched 7.1 strong innings while only giving up only one run. He ups his record to 6-1 while lowering his ERA down to 2.11.

True…Just was trying to focus on some of the best performances. It was just another ho-hum victory for Virginia.
