AUBURN, Ala. — In a thriller that lasted four hours, saw the lead change hands or the game tied 10 times and a total of 32 runners left on base, the Kentucky baseball team outlasted No. 29 Auburn, 8-7, in an instant classic on Saturday, in front of 1,785 fans at Plainsman Park.
The back-and-forth affair saw the lead tied or change hands a total of 10 times in the four-hour game. UK found itself down two runs entering the top of the eighth inning and mounted a furious comeback to plate three runs and go ahead 8-7. The game began on Saturday morning at Plainsman Park before rains suspended play until it was resumed Sunday morning.

Game 1: Alabama 9 Mississippi State 8

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior catcher Brock Bennett had two game-winning RBI Sunday afternoon as the Crimson Tide swept a doubleheader from Mississippi State, 9-8 and 6-4. Bennett had a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one and then laced a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning in the nightcap to give the Tide the sweep.
“We knew today was going to be a big day because we got back on the right track with the win last night.” Bennett said. “It’s definitely a big weekend. It was the right hit at the right time, and that’s pretty much it. Those were definitely two big games that we needed to win.”

Ole Miss 7 LSU 6
OXFORD, Miss. – Late inning heroics was the tale again for the Rebels as a pair of home runs in the eighth set up a walk-off single with the bases loaded from Kevin Mort in the ninth, as No. 19 Ole Miss (28-13, 11-7 SEC) swept No. 5 LSU (32-9, 11-7 SEC) with a 7-6 win on Sunday.
It was the second straight walk-off win for the Rebels over LSU this weekend.
Back-to-back singles from Taylor Hightower and Miles Hamblin opened the ninth for the Rebels before LSU went to its bench for defensive substitution Wet DeLatte, who was placed behind the mound as a fifth infielder. The Tigers intentionally walked Tim Ferguson to load the bases before Kevin Mort sent a fly ball to the gap in left center to drive in Hightower from third and give the Rebels the come-from-behind win.

Freshman Mike Zunino (Cape Coral, Fla.) delivered a one-out single into right field to score freshman pinch runner Cody Dent (Boynton Beach, Fla.)from second base with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as No. 7 Florida (28-11/12-6 SEC) edged No. 4 Arkansas (33-8/13-5 SEC), 2-1, in the rubber match of the weekend series on a rainy Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium. The game was delayed at the outset for two hours and 27 minutes.
“Anytime you win a series, whether it is home or away, you’ve got to feel good about it,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. ‘Like I’ve said all along, this series is no more important than the next one, LSU. I don’t think in this league you can get too high or too low. You’ve just got to stay even keel.”
Game 1: South Carolina 5 Georgia 0
Athens, Ga. – South Carolina junior right-hander Sam Dyson hurled a three-hit complete game shutout in seven innings and was backed by a pair of homers from Nick Ebert and Adrian Morales as the Gamecocks upended Georgia 5-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Foley Field. With the win, Carolina clinches its sixth straight SEC series this year and ninth straight dating back to last season. The Gamecocks are 31-8 and 13-4 in the SEC while the loss drops Georgia to 12-27 and 3-14 in the SEC. Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:35 p.m.
Dyson was stellar the entire outing for the Gamecocks as he limited the Bulldogs to just three singles. He is now 4-2 on the year. It is the Gamecocks seventh shutout of the season. Georgia starter Jeff Walters suffered the loss and is now 1-4 for the season. He allowed two runs, on earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: South Carolina 8 Georgia 7
Athens, Ga. – Jackie Bradley Jr. reached base five times with four hits including a homer and a game-winning RBI single in the top of the seventh inning as South Carolina held on for an 8-7 victory over Georgia in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday at Foley Field. Carolina sweeps the three-game series vs. the Bulldogs with the squad now 32-8 and 14-4 in SEC play while the loss drops Georgia to 12-28 and 3-15 in conference action. South Carolina has won all six SEC series this year and nine straight dating back to the 2009 season.
With the score deadlocked at 7-7, the Gamecocks made their move in the top of the seventh. Whit Merrifield reached with a leadoff walk and stole second base to set the stage for Bradley. On a 1-2 pitch, Bradley drilled a RBI single to center field that scored Merrifield and put the Gamecocks up a run. The bottom of the seventh was not without dramatics though as Georgia loaded the bases with one out on a pair of hits and an intentional walk. Gamecock freshman reliever Ethan Carter battled though as he struck out Brett DeLoach with the bags full for a key second out in the inning. Carter then sealed the Gamecock victory coaxing pinch hitter Zach Taylor into a short fly out to left field to end the threat and secure a Carolina win.

Game 2: Tennessee 4 Vanderbilt 2 (11 innings)
Game 1: Tennessee 4 Vanderbilt 3 (7 innings)
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Down to its last out and its final strike, the University of Tennessee baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by senior Cody Grisham, to defeat No. 15 Vanderbilt, 4-3, and claim a doubleheader sweep and series win on Sunday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 3,136 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
"Both games were unbelievable games, I thought we battled and competed all day," UT Head Coach Todd Raleigh said. "I thought we played with tremendous heart. In the first game, Blake (Forsythe) getting a big hit was huge, (Stephen) McCray was unbelievable and (Matt) Ramsey was the best I’ve seen him all season. In the second game, (Steve) Crnkovich was phenomenal and we just battled the entire game. We were down to our last out, nobody on and then P.J. (Polk) gets on and starts it. Next thing you know we’ve scored two runs. Hopefully, today is something we can continue to build on.

The SEC is an absurd baseball conference however it always seems to go unnoticed by most due to the strength of its football programs.
That having been said, I like Arkansas to win the SEC this year and have another CWS appearance.
