This is your Big 12 Recap for April 25th.

#2 Texas 9 Oklahoma State 3

The No. 3 Texas Longhorns completed its fourth straight weekend series sweep with a 9-3 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

It was the 16th consecutive victory for Texas, equaling the Longhorns’ longest win streak since 2005. It was also the Longhorns’ 14th straight Big 12 triumph, the second-longest win streak in league history, behind Texas A&M’s 16 in 2008.

Texas ignited a two-out rally in the bottom of the first to give the Longhorns an early 1-0 lead. With two outs, Tant Shepherd advanced to first from a bean ball and came around to score when Cameron Rupp continued his first-at-bat power display in the series by crushing a double off the left centerfield wall.

The Longhorns kept the pressure on in the second. Kevin Lusson led off the inning by beating out a bunt to third and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Connor Rowe. After Lusson stole third base with two outs, Cohl Walla doubled to left center to increase the Longhorn lead to 2-0.

Texas tacked on two more insurance runs in the third. Shepherd began the inning with a triple off the centerfield wall, then tagged up and scored on a Rupp sac fly to left. Kevin Keyes followed suit by shooting a one-out single up the middle and advanced to second on a Russell Moldenhauer sac bunt. Keyes stole third on a Lusson walk, and came home when the errant throw to third bounced out to leftfield.

The Longhorns manufactured a run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Jordan Etier doubled to right center then advanced to third on a deep fly from Walla. Etier tagged up again and scored on a Brandon Loy sacrifice fly to left. FULL STORY

#17 Oklahoma 10 Texas A&M 2

Danny Black drove in a career-high six runs as No. 17 Oklahoma clinched a series victory on the road after a 10-2 win on Sunday against Texas A&M.

“We’ve seen it several times this season, he can be a difference maker and he did that today,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway on Black’s performance.

The Sooners (29-11, 8-8 Big 12) have won six of the last seven series meetings over the Aggies (22-16-1, 7-10-1), including two of last three sets in College Station. The Sooners came back and won game three after the 13-inning marathon on Saturday that saw OU come from behind for the 15th time this season in a 6-5 thriller.

“It’s real important,” said Golloway on the series win. “It was a big week for us following the loss at Oklahoma State and the series loss at Texas Tech. We needed to come back and respond and that started with the win over a ranked TCU club on Tuesday. But we needed to win a Big 12 series, especially on the road. I think this (weekend) is really going to help us as we get towards the final push of the season.” FULL STORY

Missouri 4 #18 Kansas State 2
Missouri 9 #18 Kansas State 8

A 10th inning, two-run single from freshman Dane Opel completed a Missouri sweep of Sunday’s doubleheader with No. 16 Kansas State after a total of 19 innings were at Taylor Stadium.

Trailing by one in the ninth inning of the second game of the doubleheader, Mizzou tied the score when sophomore Ryan Gebhart scored on a sacrifice bunt by junior Ryan Ampleman, forcing extra innings. KSU regained the lead with a run in the top of the 10th, but had a runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

With the bases loaded and two out in the Tigers’ half of the 10th inning, Opel singled up the middle to drive in two runs, giving MU a 9-8 victory. The win completed the sweep of the twinbill after the Tigers took a 4-2 victory in game one.

Opel was 2-for-5 in game two with three RBI. He was one of five Tigers with two hits in the game. Junior Brett Nicholas had a pair of hits and drove in three, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Junior Kelly Fick picked up the win after pitching five innings in relief. He struck out three and allowed just one run on two hits to improve to 2-0 on the year.

In the opener of the doubleheader, junior Nick Tepesch took the victory as he allowed just one run and struck out five in 7.2 innings pitched. Tepesch has won his last two starts and improved to 4-3 on the year. He has pitched at least seven inning in all five of his starts in Big 12 play. FULL STORY

Baylor 4 Nebraska 1

Shawn Tolleson turned in his longest outing in nearly two years, and Raynor Campbell delivered a game-winning, two-run homer to give Baylor a 4-1 win over Nebraska on Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. With the win, the Bears took the series from the Cornhuskers.

Tolleson (2-5) picked up the win after allowing just one run on seven hits in 7.1 innings – his longest outing since going 7.1 innings at Texas on May 3, 2008.

“I thought it was a very clutch performance. He gave us even more than we would have hoped for,” head coach Steve Smith said. “We made plays behind him, and he just pitched a veteran type of game.”

Baylor (24-16, 7-9 Big 12) jumped out to an early lead when Max Muncy drove in Tyler Collins with a RBI single in the first. The Cornhuskers nearly got out of the inning unscathed when Joey Hainsfurther hit a grounder to Bryan Peters that could’ve been a double play, but Collins was in motion on the pitch, and he slid in safely at second base without a throw.

After retiring the first seven batters he faced, Tolleson gave up a one-out double to Bryan Peters in the third, and the Cornhuskers (19-21, 6-12 Big 12) tied the score on Kale Kiser’s two-out RBI single. FULL STORY

Texas Tech 11 Kansas 8
Texas Tech 21 Kansas 10

Texas Tech tied the school and Big 12 Conference record with 12 doubles and junior right-hander Chad Bettis set the school’s career saves record as the Red Raiders clinched a three-game series over Kansas with a 21-10 victory on Sunday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark.

The win gives Tech (24-20) its fourth consecutive Big 12 series win and the Red Raiders maintain their hold on third place in the conference standings with a record of 10-8. Kansas falls to 25-16-1 overall and to 6-8-1 in the league.

The Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead as freshman second baseman Jamodrick McGruder led off the game with a walk and after a steal and a groundout, he was able to score on a wild pitch.

Texas Tech fell one double shy of tying an NCAA record for the most in a single inning as the Red Raiders belted seven in the top of the second inning. Tech’s seven doubles led to seven runs and an 8-0 lead. Sophomore designated hitter Scott LeJeune led off the inning with a double and then came back around and drove in two more runs with a single to left that capped the final two runs of the frame. LeJeune, Jeremy Mayo, Nick Popescu, and Bonham Hough led off the frame with four consecutive doubles before McGruder and Michael Reed got in on the doubles action later in the frame. Mayo led all Tech hitters with two doubles in the frame. FULL STORY

A lot of big series wins in the Big 12 this weekend, most importantly being Texas Tech and Missouri. Mizzou, the last placed team, sweeping the 2nd placed team was huge for them. And the Texas Tech continues to dominate in the Big 12, getting yet another series victory. Every weekend the Red Raiders secure their place in postseason with a stronger hold seeing as how the toughest of the season is behind them. Great baseball this weekend!
