Josh Lyon, Indiana, Jr., DH, Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian

Lyon becomes the third different Hoosier this season to be named Big Ten Player of the Week, leading Indiana to a series victory against Iowa. The junior hit .700 and slugged 1.400 in the series, also scoring five runs and driving in three. In Sunday’s series finale, Lyon had a career day, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. The junior also went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a mid-week game against Valparaiso on Tuesday. With a home run in the series-opener against Iowa on Friday, Lyon recorded homers in three consecutive games, upping his total to seven, which is tied for fourth in the Big Ten. The designated hitter leads the conference with a 1.000 slugging percentage during Big Ten games and is second with a .577 average. The weekly accolade is the first of Lyon’s career.

Last IND Player of the Week: Alex Dickerson (March 29, 2010)

Patrick Biondi, Michigan, Fr., CF, Woodhaven, Mich./Divine Child

Biondi is the second consecutive Michigan player to earn weekly laurels, leading the Wolverines to a 4-1 record last week including a series win at Illinois. The freshman hit .583, slugged 1.167 and reached base at a .667 clip in the conference series, combining for an OPS of 1.834. He also had a pair of three-hit games in the set, scoring three runs in each of those contests, crossing the plate a total of seven times in the series. Biondi also scored three times in a pair of mid-week games, giving him 10 runs for the week. The center fielder stole four bases in five games, recording four RBI with three doubles, a triple and a home run. With his first steal of the week against Toledo on Tuesday, Biondi broke Michigan’s 55-year-old freshman record for steals in a season. He also became the first Wolverine since 2003 to lead off a game with a home run, going deep to open Saturday’s contest against Illinois. Biondi led off each of Michigan’s five games last week by reaching base and eventually scoring.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Tyler Burgoon, Michigan, Jr., RHP, Defiance, Ohio/Defiance

Burgoon picked up a win and two saves for the Wolverines last week, combining to throw eight innings without allowing a run. The right-hander struck out 11 and gave up just two walks and three hits over three appearances. The junior picked up his fifth save of the year against Toledo on Tuesday, getting the final two outs. On Wednesday vs. Bowling Green, he earned another save in a two-inning outing in which he struck out four. All six of Burgoon’s saves have come in his last nine outings, and with 15 in his career, he is tied for third on Michigan’s all-time list. Burgoon also grabbed his third win of the season on Sunday, throwing 5.1 scoreless innings against Illinois. With a 3-0 record this season, he is 10-3 in his career over 52 outings. The weekly award is the first of Burgoon’s career and the first for a Michigan pitcher this season.
