Bobby Doran#6 Texas 3 Kansas 1

Cole Green pitched a gem to extend the No. 6 Texas Longhorns win streak to seven games with a 3-1 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday afternoon.

Green (7-0) pitched 7.0 innings allowing only one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out five to maintain his perfect record on the season. Stayton Thomas and Hoby Milner combined to pitch a scoreless eighth, while Chance Ruffin recorded his eighth save on the season with a scoreless ninth inning. Ruffin hit one batter and struck out two in the frame.

The Longhorns infield defense helped seal the win with three double plays. Six-four-three double plays helped Texas quell rallies in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings.

Kansas (19-12-1, 3-4-1 Big 12) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. After a two-out single by Brandon Macias, Casey Lytle walked to put runners on first and second. Robby Price then beat out shortstop Brandon Loy’s throw for an infield single, bringing Macias around to score and putting the Jayhawks up 1-0.

Texas (25-7, 9-2 Big 12) answered in the bottom of the fifth inning. Russell Moldenhauer led off the inning with a single to left field. A passed ball moved Moldenhauer to second, before a deep fly out by Kevin Lusson pushed him to third base. Connor Rowe then delivered a sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Moldenhauer and tie the game at 1-1. FULL STORY

#17 Oklahoma 10 Missouri 4

The No. 12 Sooners clinched a Big 12 series win, their third out of the first four this year, after topping Missouri, 10-4, on Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The offense duplicated the feat during Friday’s win with 12 more hits, but eclipsed the double-digit mark in runs as Cody Reine had another huge outing with three hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Max White also homered in the contest, one frame earlier, to give OU its 11th multiple home run game of the season. The Sooners lead the Big 12 with 40 dingers.

Oklahoma improved to 25-6 overall, but more importantly won their second straight Big 12 game to improve to 5-4 in conference play. The Sooners entered the series with Missouri (17-13, 2-6) after dropping three straight to then-No. 7 Texas last week.

"For us to win three out of our first four series is big and I think it’s going to position us back in the race," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "Now, what we need to do is understand we have to come out aggressive tomorrow because it’s big for percentage points in the standings. We’ve already secured the series victory, but we have to make sure we complete the weekend on a high note and stay above the .500 mark in the Big 12." FULL STORY

#30 Kansas State 13 Nebraska 5

Grand slam home runs in back-to-back innings fueled a pair of five-run frames as No. 20 Kansas State topped Nebraska, 13-5, Saturday afternoon in front of 2,943 fans at Tointon Family Stadium.

K-State evened the weekend series at 1-1 with the win while improving to 22-6 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play. Nebraska dropped to 16-15 overall and 4-7 in conference action.

Tied 3-3 in the fifth, Kansas State came out swinging. Nick Martini led off with a double and scored when Daniel Dellasega dropped a hit into left field. Kent Urban followed with a single through the right side before Mike Kindel walked to load the bases. Matt Giller, who came close to hitting a grand slam in his previous at-bat in the third inning, didn’t miss on his next opportunity as he belted a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right-center field to give K-State a commanding 8-3 advantage.

The Wildcats repeated the feat in the sixth after the Huskers scored a run to cut the lead to 8-4. A walk, a single and an error loaded the bases for Urban. The Seward, Neb., product blasted the second grand slam of the day over the center-field wall to build the lead to 12-4. Adam Muenster capped the scoring when he doubled to score Giller and put the game away. FULL STORY

Logan Vick led off the third inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out in a scoreless game, the Aggies brought the infield in, and Brodie Greene snagged Joey Hainsfurther’s grounder, spun and threw Vick out at the plate to keep the Bears off the board. FULL STORY

The win moves Texas Tech to 16-18 on the season and to 5-6 in Big 12 Conference play while Oklahoma State drops to 18-11 overall and to 3-5 in league play.

Oklahoma State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they capitalized on a shaky start by Doran in the bottom of the first inning. OSU got back-to-back singles from Davis Duren and Tom Belza to start the frame and a sacrifice fly by Mark Ginther gave the Cowboys the early advantage.

Tech didn’t waste any time answering the Cowboy scoring as an RBI double by Michael Reed in the top of the second evened things up at 1-1. Mayo led off the inning with a walk and then Reed dropped a ball off the wall in right-center and that allowed Mayo to score all the way from first.
