Game 2: Dartmouth 16 Cornell 1

ITHACA, N.Y. — Dartmouth converted 15 hits, eight walks and six hit batsmen into a season-high 16 runs in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field, defeating the Big Red, 16-1. The offense was a stark contrast to the first game in which Cornell’s Corey Pappel tossed a three-hit shutout to defeat the Big Green in a crisply played 2-0 game in the Ivy League opener for both teams. Dartmouth is now 7-9 on the season and 1-1 in the league, while Cornell moved to 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

The Big Green victory was the 383rd for head coach Bob Whalen, tying him with Jeff Tesreau (1919-46) for the most victories as the Dartmouth head coach.

NEW YORK — Columbia’s doubleheader sweep of Yale on Saturday at Robertson Field had a little bit of everything for the loads of fans in attendance on a beautiful spring day in New York City.  It had strong pitching, missed chances, late-inning heroics and 17 innings of gripping baseball as the Ivy League schedule began.
