RALEIGH, N.C. – Andrew Ciencin hit a grand-slam home run in the seventh inning and NC State hung on for dear life in the ninth inning, coming away with a 7-6 nail-biter Sunday in the final game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Doak Field at Dail Park.

NC State, which won the opening game of the series on Friday, won the series two games to one and improved to 18-10 overall and 5-7 in the ACC. Virginia fell to 23-6 and 8-4.

#3 Georgia Tech 9 Duke 4

ATLANTA – Junior Chase Burnette hit two home runs, and led seven different batters with extra-base hits as the second-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team (25-3, 11-1 ACC) swept Duke (16-12, 3-9 ACC) with a 9-4 win Sunday afternoon Russ Chandler Stadium.

Tech hit four home runs on the day, led by Burnette’s two. The Jackets hit 10 round-trippers on the weekend alone, and hold a conference-leading 63 on the season.

#5 Florida State 9 Virginia Tech 6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It was a battle for 27 outs but in the end fourth-ranked Florida State (21-6, 7-5 ACC) held on for the 9-6 victory over Virginia Tech (20-10, 6-6 ACC) Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles scored seven runs over their final two at-bats to cap the come-from-behind victory and to give Hall of Fame head coach Mike Martin career win No. 1,600

#12 Clemson 14 Boston College 9

Clemson, SC – The #10 Clemson Tigers scored eight runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 14-9 victory over Boston College in front of 3,925 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, improved to 20-8 overall and 9-3 in the ACC. The Eagles dropped to 12-15 overall and 4-8 in ACC play.

The Tigers battled back from a 4-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning, but a four-run seventh inning enabled the Eagles to take an 8-5 lead. But after scoring one run in the seventh inning, Clemson sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the eighth inning.

#15 Miami (FL) 10 Wake Forest 1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 15th-ranked University of Miami baseball team used a huge third inning to conclude a sweep of Wake Forest, winning 10-1 Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park. Chris Pelaez drove in four runs and Jason Santana tossed six scoreless to earn the win as the Hurricanes improved to 20-7 overall and 10-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference at the mid-point of the 2010 campaign.

The series victory was the fourth in a row for the Hurricanes to open ACC play – a stretch that includes wins for 10 in Miami’s last 11 league games.

#22 North Carolina 8 Maryland 4

COLLEGE PARK, MD. – A four-run ninth inning propelled No. 22 North Carolina over Maryland 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field. Ben Bunting paced the Carolina attacked posting four hits. The Tar Heels earned their first lead in the ninth and never looked back, to improve to 20-10 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Terrapins falls to 12-17 overall and 3-9 in the ACC with the loss.

Michael Morin (4-0) earned the win throwing 1.2 innings of strong relief. Colin Bates looked good in his second relief appearance of the year and weekend. The junior scattered seven hits allowing only one run over four innings of work.
