NC State 6 #2 Virginia 5 (11 innings)

NCStatePhoto RALEIGH, N.C. – Matt Bergquist’s single to right field drove in pinch-runner Mike Clark with the winning run Friday, leading NC State past top-ranked Virginia 6-5 in 11 innings at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The victory was the Wolfpack’s second ninth-inning comeback and extra-inning victory in as many weekends, and raised the Pack’s record to 17-9 overall and 4-6 in the ACC. Virginia dropped to 22-5 and 7-3. Last Saturday, NC State scored five runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie Miami and force extra innings before winning in 11 innings.

#3 Georgia Tech 13 Duke 3

ATLANTA – Junior Chase Burnette was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Deck McGuire picked up his fifth win of the season to lift No. 2 Georgia Tech past Duke, 13-3, Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Tech improves to 23-3 overall on the season, and 9-1 in conference play to remain in first place in the ACC Coastal Division. Tech has won six-consecutive conference games, its most since winning nine straight during the 2005 season.

Virginia Tech 10 #5 Florida State 5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week Justin Wright tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts and the Virginia Tech offense hit a season-high seven doubles to help the Hokies win at fourth-ranked Florida State for the first time since 1989 with a 10-5 victory on Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium.

The win, which improved Virginia Tech to 19-9 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, was the just the second victory for Tech over the Seminoles in the past 27 meetings. The Hokies last defeated FSU in 2006 when the Seminoles were ranked No. 1 in the nation. Before that, the last victory came in Tallahassee on April 21, 1989. It was the Hokies’ fourth win over a top-five team since head coach Pete Hughes took over the program in 2007.

#12 Clemson 15 Boston College 2

Clemson, SC – Mike Freeman went 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, four RBIs, and three runs to lead #10 Clemson to a 15-2 win over Boston College in front of 6,064 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 series lead, improved to 19-7 overall and 8-2 in the ACC. The Eagles dropped to 11-14 overall and 3-7 in ACC play.

Freeman had three of Clemson’s nine extra-base hits (five doubles, two triples, two homers) in the game, as the Tigers scored in seven of the eight innings in which they batted. The Tigers also totaled 15 hits in the game, including at least one by 10 different players. A six-run second inning gave Clemson a commanding lead, which it never relinquished.

#15 Miami (FL) 7 Wake Forest 4

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 15th-ranked University of Miami baseball team saw every player reach base, including five different players who recorded an RBI, as the Hurricanes took game one over Wake Forest, 7-4, Friday night at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Miami (18-7, 8-2 ACC) ran out to a 5-1 lead and eventually held on for its eighth win in its last nine conference games. The win was also the Hurricanes’ seventh straight over the Demon Deacons, dating back to 2007.

Maryland 6 #22 North Carolina 5 (10 innings)

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Adam Kolarek hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the tenth inning as the University of Maryland baseball team came from behind to defeat No. 22 North Carolina 6-5 Friday night.

Matt Marquis hit a two-run homer in the eighth to tie the game at 5-5 and send it into extras as the Terps (12-15) picked up their second win of the season over a ranked team.
