• .625 (10-for-16) with a double and four home runs during the series sweep at Georgia …Drove in 14 runs during the three-game series, including a team-high nine on Friday.
• Had a 1.438 slugging percentage on the weekend and also had two stolen bases…Was 4-for-6 with 5 RBI on Friday and 5-for-6 with nine RBI on Sunday…His four home runs on the weekend gives him 31 for his career, which is 10th all-time at Auburn.

Adam Bailey, Brandon Workman Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week

Nebraska’s Adam Bailey has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Brandon Workman from Texas has been selected the Pitcher of the Week for games of March 15-21, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. This marks the second time that Bailey and Workman have been honored in their careers.

BIG TEN BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State junior pitcher A.J. Achter was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the conference office. Achter garnered the honor after throwing his first-career complete game shutout in a 13-0 win over Notre Dame in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. The righty struck out a career-high nine batters while scattering seven hits and allowing just three walks in the win. Achter is now 2-0 and ranks second in the Big Ten with a 1.83 ERA.

Foley’s Sunday Thoughts

AustinMaddox What has happened with the Georgia Bulldogs? They were absolutely blitzed by the Auburn Tigers over this weekend by a combined score of 43-9 over the three games. The Bulldogs pitching staff now has a team ERA of 8.22. They three weekend starters in Matt Grimm (1-2, 5.16 ERA), Michael Palazzone (3-2, 9.15 ERA) and Jeff Walters (0-2, 9.58 ERA) have all struggled mightily during the early portion of the schedule. If the Bulldogs do not get the pitching together, they will not be in the postseason at all.

Pac-10 Weekend Recap (March 19-21)

SethBlairASU The last two undefeated teams in the nation are still undefeated and both hail from the Pac-10. Arizona St., 20-0, and UCLA, 16-0, each took care of business this weekend to continue their perfect runs this season, but the rest of the conference is also faring well as only one checks in below .500 despite the conference playing the toughest schedules as ranked by BoydsWorld.com

This weekend marked the final weekend before conference play gets underway so several teams were looking to put in a good weekend of work in hopes of carrying momentum into the league season. In total, six teams swept their series, another took two of three, two lost two of three and one lost their only game of the weekend because two were snowed out.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Solo homers by right fielder Mikie Mahtook and left fielder Trey Watkins along with an outstanding performance by starting pitcher Chris Matulis propelled No. 3 LSU to a 5-1 victory over No. 13 Arkansas in an SEC series finale Sunday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

With the win, the Tigers (16-3, 2-1) captured their sixth straight regular-season series victory over Arkansas (13-5, 1-2). LSU is 15-5 against the Razorbacks in that span.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 1-ranked Virginia baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep of Boston College Sunday afternoon with an 11-1 victory over the Eagles at Davenport Field. The win also clinched a perfect 5-0 week for the Cavaliers.

The Davenport Field crowd of 3,206 on Sunday pushed Virginia’s attendance for the weekend to 9,642 – most ever for a three-game series at UVa. The previous mark was 7,559, set May 11-13, 2007, for a series with North Carolina State.
