One of the stories of last year’s College World Series was how the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles baseball program went on a great run in the postseason bringing head coach Corky Palmer to the CWS in his final campaign. Army’s Clint Moore named Finalist for AAU Sullivan Award

West Point, N.Y. – Army junior shortstop Clint Moore was named one of 14 nominees for the AAU Sullivan Award, which honors the nation’s outstanding amateur athlete. Presented annually since 1930, the Sullivan Award is also based on leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateurism.
The only college baseball player to be named a semifinalist, Moore is joined on the list by Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, who set the Alabama single season rushing record with 1,658 yards in leading the Crimson Tide to the national championship this past season, and Tina Charles, who was nominated for her contributions to the Connecticut women’s basketball teams’s perfect season and national title in 2009, among others.

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Brett Eibner had two hits and scored the eventual game-winning run, while the Razorback pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts Tuesday night as the No. 16 University of Arkansas baseball team held off McNeese State, 3-2, at Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, La. TJ Forrest picked up the win in a relief appearance and Jeremy Heatley earned his first career save. The Cowboys had the game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth but Blake Ellender grounded into the game-ending double play to send Arkansas (14-5) to victory.
"It was a well-played game," head coach Dave Van Horn said. "They were one big hit away from beating us and we were one big hit from taking a three- or four-run lead. We took advantage of the few hits we got. Both teams played solid defense and made a couple of nice plays."

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Led by a 4-for-4 night from Tyler Cannon (Sr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.), the top-ranked Virginia baseball team knocked off Marshall, 6-3, Tuesday at Davenport Field. Six Virginia pitchers combined to limit the Thundering Herd to six hits as the Cavaliers won their sixth straight game.
Cannon extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games. With his first-inning double, Cannon tied the Virginia career record for doubles with 53, matching Brandon Guyer (2005-07). John Barr (Jr., Ivyland, Pa.) and Stephen Bruno (Fr., Audubon, N.J.) each added a pair of hits for UVa.
NCBWA National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 21, today. Auburn junior infielder Hunter Morris was named National Hitter of the Week, while South Florida senior lefthander Teddy Kauffman was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
2010 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List
LUBBOCK, Texas — After a month of exciting college baseball action across the country, the College Baseball Foundation has released the initial Brooks Wallace Award Watch List.
The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
2010 CBF Pitcher of the Year Watch List
LUBBOCK, Texas — As starting pitchers across the country continue to impact the success of their teams, the College Baseball Foundation has released the first Pitcher of the Year Watch List for 2010.
The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented in Lubbock, Texas,on July 2 as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
UCLA continues to Roll
The UCLA Bruins baseball program continues to roll as they improved to 16-0 over the weekend with a three game sweep over Oral Roberts. They currently have a team ERA of 2.13 while holding opponents to a .193 batting average. The UCLA offense has also been strong as they have a team batting average of .370. Tyler Rahmatulla leads the team with a .431 average while being second on the team with 17 RBI. Ojala makes Return to Rice Staff
Moisekapenda Bower of RiceOwls.com has an excellent article on the return of Mike Ojala to the Rice pitching staff. Ojala had his first appearance on Friday against San Diego where he worked 1.1 innings out of the pen while striking out two batters. He had surgery done on his pitching elbow for a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament on June 18th. If Ojala can make a solid contribution to the Owls staff in the coming months to help offset the team ERA of 4.95 ERA, then the Owls will be a force to be reckoned with in Conference USA.
NCBWA Division 1 Poll (March 22nd)

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 13th year with its 2010 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 22-June 29 following the 64th annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb., and final CWS competition at historic Rosenblatt Stadium.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With one of the most impressive pitching performances of the season, USF senior lefthander Teddy Kaufman earns the Bulls’ first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor of the season. Villanova sophomore outfielder Matt Szczur earned his first BIG EAST Player of the Week award following a successful week at the plate.
Kaufman pitched nine innings in a 4-0 win over Central Florida on March 16. The senior struck out a BIG EAST-high 14 batters while allowing zero runs and four hits. He is one of only four BIG EAST pitchers to pitch nine innings in a game this season and the first to record a shutout victory in that appearance.
