CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Derek Dietrich’s two-run homer capped a five-run rally in the ninth inning, and tied the game at 8-8, before the third-ranked Georgia Tech baseball team (21-2, 8-1 ACC) scored three more in the 10th for an 11-8 win over No. 17 North Carolina (16-9, 2-7 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

The Jackets extended their win-streak to seven games, and swept North Carolina for the first time since the 2000 season.

The No. 21 Southeastern Louisiana baseball team clinched a third consecutive Southland Conference series win over Central Arkansas with a 5-4 victory Saturday at Alumni Field. The Lions improved to 22-2 overall and 7-1 in league play.

Game 2: #4 LSU 8 Tennessee 6

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Catcher Micah Gibbs and designated hitter Matt Gaudet each drove in two runs Saturday night to lead fourth-ranked LSU to an 8-6 win over Tennessee in the second game of a doubleheader at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The win in the nightcap completed a sweep of the twin bill as the Tigers won Saturday’s opener by a 10-6 count. LSU, which defeated Tennessee, 6-2 on Friday night, completed an SEC series sweep on the road for the first time since May 2008 at Auburn.

Game 1: #8 Clemson 8 #1 Virginia 5

Charlottesville, VA – Virginia native Will Lamb pitched 7.0 strong innings to lead #5 Clemson to an 8-5 win over #1 Virginia in the first game of a doubleheader in front of a school-record 3,540 fans at UVa Baseball Stadium on Saturday. The Tigers, who evened the series 1-1 and snapped a seven-game road losing streak to Virginia, improved to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in the ACC. The Cavaliers fell to 19-4 overall and 6-2 in ACC play.

Lamb (3-0), a native of Seaford, VA, allowed just five hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks with two strikeouts in a career-high 7.0 innings pitched to earn the win. David Haselden pitched the final 1.1 innings to record his second save of the year.

CBB Visit: Duke at Boston College

MickeyWiswallBC I finally had my first chance to get out to a baseball field this spring to take in a game after a long layoff. At a cold Shea Field in Chestnut Hill MA, the Boston College Eagles hosted the Duke Blue Devils as both teams were in search of a much needed ACC victory. Duke sent senior LHP Christopher Manno to the hill while Boston College countered with RHP Michael Dennhardt.

Foley’s Friday Thoughts

RandyFontanezUSF Another Friday is in the books in the college baseball world which means we are now another day closer to the College World Series. Here are some of the interesting storylines from this evening.

The top story of the evening is South Florida’s Randy Fontanez pitched a no-hitter on Friday night as the Bulls picked up a 4-0 victory over Notre Dame. Fontanez allowed only two walks while striking out 12 batters. He said "It was incredible, I never imagined that this would happen. I didn’t realize what was happening until the ninth inning. I thought that someone would dink a hit on me." You can check out a video interview with him after the game below.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Second baseman Tyler Hanover drove in four runs Friday night and right-hander Austin Ross pitched six solid innings to lead fourth-ranked LSU to a 6-2 win over Tennessee in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

LSU improved to 18-3 overall, 3-1 in the SEC while Tennessee dropped to 11-11 and 0-4.

The teams meet in Game 2 of the series at 3 p.m. ET Saturday. Sophomore left-hander Chris Matulis  (3-0) will start for LSU while Tennessee will counter with senior right-hander Stephen McCray (2-2).

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.Stephen Bruno (Fr., Audubon, N.J.) hit a walkoff single to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a three-all tie and propel the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 4-3 win over Clemson on Friday night at Davenport Field. Virginia (19-3, 6-1 ACC) won its seventh straight game, while Clemson (17-5, 6-1), ranked as high as No. 5 nationally this week, dropped its third consecutive contest.

With one out and the bases loaded against Clemson reliever David Haselden, Bruno singled over the drawn-in infield and just inside the left-field line to score Jarrett Parker (Jr., Stafford, Va.) with the winning run. Bruno, UVa’s nine-hole hitter, also smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning, which tied the game at three. He finished 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
