My Sunday Thoughts

NCAA Baseball vs. Coastal Carolina Here are a couple of my thoughts from the games over the weekend.

Ritch Price of Kansas has to be happy to head down to Baton Rouge and pick up a series victory over the number 1 ranked LSU Tigers. His son Robby Price lead the Jayhawks attack on Friday night by having three hits and two RBI. On Sunday, Robby continued his strong hitting by going 3-5 with an RBI.

Alex Wimmers of Ohio State pitched eight strong innings on Sunday as he led the Buckeyes to a 2-0 victory over Tennessee. He is now 3-0 on the year with an ERA of 2.84 while striking out 23 batters in 19 innings pitched.

Quick Thoughts from Saturday

TrevorBauerUCLA There was not many upsets on this Saturday night as only four Top 30 teams picked up a loss to an unranked squad. The biggest story of the day was Virginia making an outstanding ninth inning comeback on the Florida State Seminoles. The Cavaliers entered the ninth behind 8-3 but got to the Seminoles bullpen for six runs in the top of the ninth to steal the victory from the Noles. We should see how this affects Florida State on Sunday during the final game of the three game set.

#4 Virginia 9 #2 Florida State 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Down five runs with one out in the ninth inning Saturday night, the Virginia baseball team staged an incredible rally and scored six times to shock Florida State, 9-8, at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. Keith Werman (So., Vienna, Va.) supplied the eventual game-winning hit – a two-out, bases-loaded single to left-center which scored John Hicks (So., Sandy Hook, Va.) and Reed Gragnani (Fr., Richmond, Va.).

With the victory, Virginia clinched its first-ever series win – home or away – against Florida State. UVa shut out the Seminoles, 5-0, Friday night.

CBB Visit: No. 8 TCU 9 Texas Tech 1 (3-13-10)

purke small It has been a frustrating few weeks for Texas Tech (8-7). After starting the year with five straight wins, the Red Raiders dropped seven of their last ten games heading into today’s contest, seeing their team ERA sky rocket to 6.61 and their team batting average fall to .311. The woes have not been limited to the plate or the mound. Texas Tech has also suffered from a rash of fielding and running mistakes, the last being a game-ending pickoff of freshman Jamodrick McGruder, the tying run in an 8-7 loss to TCU.

Foley’s Friday Thoughts

MarioHollandsUCSB Here are my thoughts about the day of College Baseball action around the nation on Friday.

The Virginia Cavaliers showed some grit tonight by going into Dick Howser Stadium and shutting out the Florida State Seminoles by a score of 5-0. The Seminoles before tonight’s game were averaging over 11 runs per game but they couldn’t get anything going tonight against Virginia’s Danny Hultzen. He went six innings allowing only two hits as he improved his record to 3-1 on the year.
