#17 Coastal Carolina at #12 Clemson

The Chanticleers head to Clemson tonight to take on the Tigers in a key out of conference showdown between two squads battling it out for a regional host bid. Coastal Carolina enters with a 19-5 overall record but lost the final two games against San Diego this past weekend. Coastal Carolina will start junior lefthander Matt Rein (3-0, 1.23 ERA) on the mound. He will be making his first career start as he has made eight relief appearances for a total of 22.0 innings pitched this season. He has allowed 15 hits (.195 opponents’ batting average), no homers, and 10 walks with 11 strikeouts. He has also not allowed a stolen base. Rico Noel leads the CCU offense as he is hitting .356 with three homers and 24 RBI while stealing 19 bases in 22 attempts in the early portion of the schedule. Clemson enters with a 18-6 overall record after losing two out of three games to Virginia over the weekend. They will send Dominic Leone (1-0, 6.14 ERA) to the mound who will also be making his first career start, while making seven relief appearances for a total of 7.1 innings pitched. He has given up nine hits (.281 opponents’ batting average) and five walks with eight strikeouts. Clemson’s offense is led by Kyle Parker who is hitting .396 with 10 homers and 24 RBI on the year.

#25 Western Kentucky at #30 Kentucky

Another key RPI matchup tonight is Western Kentucky heading to the University of Kentucky in a Sun Belt/SEC showdown. Western Kentucky enters the game with a 20-5 record after sweeping conference foe Louisiana-Monroe last weekend. Brian Edelen is expected to get the ball for the Hilltoppers as he is 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA in 10 appearances (four starts) for a total of 21.2 innings. Jared Andreoli is the top hitter on the squad with a .388 average while stealing eight bases in ten attempts. Kentucky enters with a 16-8 record after picking up a win on Tuesday over Cincinnati by a score of 11-2. They are expected to send freshman RHP Sam Kidd to the mound with a 1-1 record with a 6.61 ERA in six appearances (three starts) for a total of 16.1 innings. Chris Bisson is leading the Wildcats at the plate with a .385 average while stealing 10 bases in 14 attempts.
