#9 Texas 17 Texas Tech 5

The No. 8 Texas Longhorns tallied 16 hits, including four doubles and four home runs, to post a 17-5 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Dan Law Field on Sunday.

Texas drew first blood in the top of the second. With one out, Kevin Lusson singled to the gap in left centerfield, moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt and scored when Russell Moldenhauer laced a single through the right side of the infield.

The Longhorns tacked on another run in the second. Cohl Walla reached on an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy and scored when Cameron Rupp hit a wall-banger to rightfield for a double.

Texas (18-6, 4-2 Big 12) created some separation with three runs in the top of the fourth. With one out, Moldenhauer launched a home run the opposite way to leftfield. Tant Shepherd followed with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and stole third base. With two outs, Walla bounced a grounder to second base, but a throwing error allowed Shepherd to score and put Walla on second. Loy capped off the rally with a single up the middle to give the Horns a 5-0 lead.

Texas Tech (12-14, 2-4 Big 12) shaved one run off the lead in both the fourth and fifth innings. Both times a double by Scott LeJeune drove in the run.

The Longhorns blew the game open with an eight-run sixth inning. The inning featured an RBI single by Walla, two-run single by Loy, bases-loaded walk by Jonathan Walsh, RBI double by Moldenhauer and a two-run single by Shepherd, who had also doubled to start the inning. The frame was tied for UT’s most productive of the season and ballooned the lead to 13-2. FULL STORY

Nebraska 10 #15 Oklahoma 0

Tom Lemke fired a complete-game three-hit shutout, while Tyler Farst, Adam Bailey and Chad Christensen all homered, leading Nebraska to a 10-0 shutout of No. 12 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Lemke (4-1) was dominant throughout in picking up his team-best fourth win, as the freshman allowed just three hits and struck out a career-high eight hitters in a game shortened to seven innings because of the Big 12 run-rule. He established career bests in both innings and strikeouts, as he allowed one run or less for the fourth time in his six starts. OU’s three hits were a season low and marked the first time it had been shutout this season.

Lemke retired the first 12 Sooners he faced, including seven of the first nine by strikeouts, before walking Cameron Seitzer to open the fifth. His only trouble spot came later in the fifth, as Oklahoma (20-3, 3-1 Big 12) got three straight two-out hits to load the bases, but Lemke got out the jam by getting Danny Black to fly out to center field to end the threat.

“He pounded the zone from the very get-go and you could see he has great movement,” Nebraska Coach Mike Anderson said. “He’s going to locate, and today he did a great job of locating. (His) off speed was good. When they had runners on and had some situations, he really worked through that and that is something he has learned from his last couple of outings. It was good to see him work through that and get himself to the seventh, and he did it with a small pitch count and dominated one of the better hitting teams in our conference.” FULL STORY

Missouri 13 #25 Texas A&M 4

Aaron Senne matched his career high with four hits and tied the school record with 56 career doubles as Mizzou defeated No. 21 Texas A&M, 13-4, on Sunday in College Station, Texas to avoid the series sweep.

Senne collected hits in each of his first four at-bats and was 4-for-6 in the game. He had RBI doubles in the third and fourth innings. His second double of the day was the 56th of his career, moving him into a tie with Ryan Fry (1995-98) for first on MU’s career doubles list.

The victory moves Missouri to 13-8 on the season and 1-2 in the Big 12 Conference, while the Aggies fall to 17-6 overall and 4-2 in league play.

With the first two Tigers in the top of the first inning retired, Mizzou put together a two-out rally, starting with singles from Senne and junior Brett Nicholas. Redshirt freshman Andreas Plackis then singled through the right side of the infield to drive in both Senne and Nicholas and give MU the 2-0 advantage.

The lead was cut in half when the Aggies’ shortstop Brodie Green homered in the bottom half of the first inning and Gregg Alcazar put Texas A&M in front with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second.

Missouri batted around in the top of the third inning, putting up six runs on six hits. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Senne and Nicholas put Mizzou back in front, 4-3. Freshman Blake Brown singled to drive in a run and sophomore Andrew Thigpen delivered the Tigers third RBI double of the inning. Freshman Dane Opel drove in the final run of the inning with a single to score Thigpen. FULL STORY

Kansas 12 Baylor 6

Senior second baseman Robby Price collected three hits and a career-high six RBIs, while junior relief pitcher Brett Bochy tossed six hitless innings of relief as Kansas earned its first-ever series win at Baylor, taking the rubber game 12-6 in 14 innings Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

The Jayhawks improve to 15-9 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Prior to the weekend, KU was 1-20 all-time against Baylor in Waco. The Bears fall to 13-9 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12.

Kansas scored six runs in the deciding inning with three bases loaded walks, a two-run single by Jordan Dreiling and an RBI single by Jimmy Waters.

Waters started the 14th, reaching on an error and moved into scoring position when Jake Marasco was hit by a pitch. After a failed sacrifice and a walk to Brett Lisher, Brandon Macias forced home the go-ahead run when he was hit by a pitch.

After a strikeout, Price and Brian Heere both collected walks with the bases full to give Kansas a three-run advantage. Dreiling, who entered the game in the fourth inning for Tony Thompson, delivered the big blow. The freshman’s single up the middle drove in two runs. Waters then drove in KU’s sixth run of the inning with another RBI single.

Bochy, a junior from Poway, Calif., anchored the Kansas bullpen which allowed no runs and no hits after Baylor scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bochy retired 18 straight Baylor batters after entering the game in the ninth inning. The junior picked up his second victory of the season, recording four strikeouts in six innings. FULL STORY
