#1 Virginia 4 #8 Clemson 3

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.Stephen Bruno (Fr., Audubon, N.J.) hit a walkoff single to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a three-all tie and propel the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 4-3 win over Clemson on Friday night at Davenport Field. Virginia (19-3, 6-1 ACC) won its seventh straight game, while Clemson (17-5, 6-1), ranked as high as No. 5 nationally this week, dropped its third consecutive contest.

With one out and the bases loaded against Clemson reliever David Haselden, Bruno singled over the drawn-in infield and just inside the left-field line to score Jarrett Parker (Jr., Stafford, Va.) with the winning run. Bruno, UVa’s nine-hole hitter, also smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning, which tied the game at three. He finished 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

#3 Georgia Tech 2 #17 UNC 1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Junior Thomas Nichols scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk, and No. 3 Georgia Tech (19-2, 6-1 ACC) turned doubles plays in the eighth and the ninth to hold for a 2-1 win over No. 17 North Carolina (16-7, 2-5 ACC) Friday night at Boshamer Stadium.

"It was a great battle out there tonight, and I am proud of our guys the way they hung in there and came out with the win tonight," head coach Danny Hall said. "We were very lucky there in the end, as we walked too many guys late in the game, but were fortunate enough to get two double plays late there to help our cause."

#6 Florida State 4 Maryland 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sixth-ranked Florida State (17-4, 4-3 ACC) defeated Maryland (9-13, 2-5 ACC) 4-1 in the opening game of a three-game series Friday night on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.

Outstanding pitching and some timely hitting proved to be the winning combination for the Seminoles in game one as the Garnet and Gold pushed their win streak to 37 straight over the Terrapins. With the win, head coach Mike Martin moved within four games of career win No. 1,600.

Maryland Recap

#12 Miami (FL) 6 NC State 5

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 12th-ranked University of Miami baseball team won its sixth straight Atlantic Coast Conference game with a 6-5 win over NC State Friday night at Doak Field at Dail Park. Miami plated runs in each of the first five innings and eventually held on for the one-run win on a cold night on NC State’s campus.

Up 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Miami (15-6, 6-1 ACC) was able to get out of trouble after the Wolfpack loaded the bases with one out. After UM closer David Gutierrez walked in a run to make it 6-5, he proceeded to strike out pinch-hitter Tarran Senay before inducing a fly out to left, securing the victory in the series opener over the Wolfpack.

Virginia Tech 7 Wake Forest 0

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech pitcher Justin Wright continued his mastery over Wake Forest with a complete-game shutout Friday night as the Hokies opened a three-game ACC series against the Demon Deacons with a 7-0 victory at English Field.

Wright allowed just four hits on the way to earning his third career win against the Demon Deacons and he leveled his season record at 3-3. The junior left-hander retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced, giving up just one single during his last five innings of work. Wright struck out six men and did not walk a batter.
