AnthonyGallasKSU Anthony Gallas of Kent State went 5-6 at the plate while hitting for the cycle, driving in six runs, and scoring three times as the Golden Flashes defeated Winthrop 16-10. The cycle was the first by a Kent State player since Steve Smetana completed the feat in 1995. Kent State coach Scott Stricklin about Anthony Gallas, "He was really locked in and he hit the ball to all fields, He took the ball and pulled it and he hit it to the opposite field. That is the first time I have seen someone hit for the cycle in a while."

The last two undefeated teams in the country are Arizona State and UCLA who continue to dominate on the west coast. Arizona State picked up a 6-0 victory over the Houston Cougars to improve their record to 19-0. UCLA picked up the victory on Saturday over Oral Roberts by a score of 12-2 to improve their record to 15-0. These two squads have shown in the early season that they will be the two teams that will finish at the top of the Pac-10 this season.

Rice continues to struggle on the road as they dropped their second straight game to San Diego today this time by a score of 6-5. Rice is now 0-5 on the year in games played outside of the state of Texas.

LeMoyne made some noise a few weeks back winning a series at Southern Miss. They have played some suspect baseball since but have won the first three games of their series against Conference USA foe Marshall to bring their record to 8-10 on the year.

The USC Trojans continue to struggle as Pacific has taken the first two games of their series. USC is now 9-10 on the season which has to be highly disappointing to the coaches at USC and to the alumni.

It was a terrible day to be a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks as the baseball team lost a doubleheader to St. Louis by scores of 12-8 and 8-5. Also on the day, the Kansas basketball team was eliminated from the NCAA Basketball tourney.

How much longer is it going to take the voters in polls to recognize Western Kentucky is a quality baseball team? They picked up their second win of the weekend by defeating VCU 15-3. They have outscored VCU by a score of 34-7 over the first two games.

Coastal Carolina’s Tommy Lastella hit for the cycle Saturday also.Capped it off in his last at bat with a grand slam.
