Crabtree FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin first baseman Darren Crabtree has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Northwestern State left-hander Luke Irvine has been named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Crabtree drove in at least one run of each of the Lumberjacks’ four wins last week to finish the week 9-for-16 (.563). The junior from Sugar Land, Texas (Dulles), drove in 13 runs and scored eight times thanks to a .556 on-base percentage. He had three doubles and a pair of home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.125. His week was highlighted by a record-setting 6-for-6 performance in a 20-12 win at Central Arkansas on Saturday. Crabtree became the first Lumberjack ever to record six hits in a game, setting another school record with five runs scored and tying the school’s top mark with eight RBI in the game. He had three doubles and a grand slam as part of a 25-hit, 20-run outburst for the ‘Jacks and each of his marks stand as the top mark for a single game in the Southland this season. Earlier in the week he had a double and an RBI in a win at UALR and just one day before his six-hit effort had a sacrifice fly in driving in one of just two runs SFA would get in its 2-0 win over the Bears. He then closed out his week with three more RBI and a two-run homer on Sunday, finishing with 12 of his 13 RBI on the week against the Bears alone.

Irvine ran his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 12.1 innings after he blanked McNeese State for six innings in picking up the victory on Friday. The junior from Liberty, Mo. (Liberty), allowed just four hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters while just walking one in the 9-2 victory. Irvine is 2-0 this season with a 2.78 earned-run average and has struck out 32 batters in 22.2 innings pitched while holding batters to a .225 average.

Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Northwestern State center fielder Oscar Garcia, Nicholls left fielder Adam Miley, Sam Houston State designated hitter Chris Andreas and Southeastern Louisiana short stop Justin Boudreaux. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to Lamar left-hander Eric Harrington, Nicholls right-hander Cullen Babin, Southeastern Louisiana right-hander Brandon Efferson and Texas State right-hander Carson Smith. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland baseball sports information contacts.

Each school’s SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
