#2 Florida State 9 #4 Virginia 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In a game that featured six lead changes and three ties, third-ranked Florida State (13-2, 1-2 ACC) held the advantage when the final out was recorded in the ninth to claim its first ACC victory of the season with a 9-8 win over top-ranked Virginia (12-3, 2-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.

Tyler Holt’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference, while Mike McGee (2-0) slammed the door shut on the Cavaliers recording the final five outs of the game to earn the win in relief.

#5 Georgia Tech 6 Wake Forest 5

ATLANTA – Cole Leonida’s sacrifice fly broke a seventh-inning tie, and freshman Buck Farmer pitched four scoreless innings of relief as No. 4 Georgia Tech defeated Wake Forest, 6-5, Sunday to complete the series sweep in Atlantic Coast Conference play at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Jackets (13-1, 3-0 ACC) won their sixth-consecutive game, while Wake Forest fell to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in ACC play.

#9 Clemson 7 #30 NC State 6

Clemson, SC – Jeff Schaus and Kyle Parker both drew bases-loaded walks with two outs in the eighth inning to propel #7 Clemson to a 7-6 comeback win over N.C. State in front of 3,663 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers, who swept the series 3-0, improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. The Wolfpack fell to 11-4 overall and 0-3 in ACC play.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning, but N.C. State chipped away at the lead and eventually took a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning. But the Tigers took advantage of three straight walks with two outs in the eighth inning to score two runs. Wolfpack pitchers combined to walk eight batters in the game and 26 in the series.

Duke 5 #11 UNC 3

DURHAM, N.C. Brian Litwin drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Duke to a 5-3 series-clinching win over No. 11 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Duke (11-4, 2-1 ACC) trailed 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but got consecutive two-out hits from freshman Eric Brady, who tied the game with a double, and Litwin, who drove in the game-winner with his two-strike single. Litwin, who entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch runner, came to the plate in the eighth with runners on second and third and slapped a 2-2 offering from North Carolina reliever Greg Holt through the right side to score both runners.

#13 Miami (FL) 11 Boston College 4

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Yasmani Grandal capped off an impressive weekend at the plate going 4-for-4 with a three-run homer, a double and two singles as the 13th-ranked University of Miami baseball team used a 11-4 win Sunday to secure a series victory over Boston College at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Miami (10-4, 2-1 ACC) has now won three-straight ACC series openers after claiming series wins over NC State last season and BC in 2008.

Virginia Tech 8 Maryland 4

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech baseball team scored all of its runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to defeat the visiting Maryland Terrapins 8-4 on Sunday afternoon at English Field.

Tech claimed the three-game series with the win and improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. Maryland dropped to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play.
