Kansas 8 #1 LSU 4

BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior Robby Price went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while junior relief pitcher Brett Bochy earned his second save of the weekend as Kansas earned a series victory over top-ranked LSU with an 8-4 win Sunday in the rubber game of the three game series Sunday.

The Jayhawks improve to 11-4, winning for the sixth time in their last seven games, while the defending national champion Tigers fall to 13-2 overall.

#3 Arizona State 8 Auburn 3

TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 2 Arizona State University baseball team completed a sweep of Auburn on Sunday with an 8-3 victory at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. A crowd of 3,469 saw the Sun Devils improve to 15-0 on the season with the victory.

Auburn got off to a fast start, scoring two off ASU starter Jake Borup in the first on a two-run homer by Hunter Morris. The Devils would use some thunder of their own to get even in the bottom of the first in the form of a Riccio Torrez two-run homer to center. It was his third home run of the season.

Charleston Southern 6 #7 Florida 3

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tyler Thornburg pitched his second-career complete game and Jon Matthews hit his first collegiate home run as the Charleston Southern baseball team upset the No. 6-ranked University of Florida Gators 6-3 Sunday afternoon at McKethan Stadium.

The Buccaneers (6-10) handed the highly-ranked Gators (11-3) just their third loss of the season in the series finale, and they held the vaunted Gator offensive attack to a season-low seven hits. The loss also snapped a five-game win streak for Florida.

#10 Louisville 10 #20 Ole Miss 8

OXFORD, Miss.Sophomore Ryan Wright had four hits and four RBI and junior Phil Wunderlich added three hits with three RBI to lead the No. 8 Louisville baseball team to a 10-8 series clinching win over No. 17 Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium.

After a 6-1 win in 12 innings in Friday night’s opener and an 8-3 loss in game two on Saturday, the Cardinals’ offense erupted for 16 hits, the second highest total of the season, to take a big lead midway through the game and then held on down the stretch to improve to 14-1 overall. Ole Miss dropped to 12-4 overall with the loss.

#14 Arkansas 3 Wisconsin-Milwaukee 2 (10 innings)

FAYETTEVILLEMatt Vinson made his first home run as a Razorback a memorable one. Facing a two-strike count in the bottom of the tenth inning, the Alma, Ark., native belted a solo shot over the wall in center field to send the No. 14 University of Arkansas baseball team to a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday afternoon at Baum Stadium. The Razorbacks (12-3) rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth to force extra innings, their first of the 2010 season.

"That was the first (walk-off hit) in my baseball career," Vinson said. "I’d never had a home run, single or anything to end a game. The crowd was great, but seeing my teammates waiting for me at home plate to celebrate was the best part."

#21 Vanderbilt 5 Ohio 1

NASHVILLE— Jack Armstrong, Chase Reid and Corey Williams combined to allow just one run on five hits in Vanderbilt’s 5-1 win over Ohio Sunday afternoon at Hawkins Field.

The Commodores swept the three game series to improve 14-1 overall and extended their winning streak to 10 games. The Bobcats fell to 2-11 on the season.
Armstrong (2-0) allowed one run on four hits in 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and three walks to pick up his first win since his start in the season opening series against Niagara.

#23 Ohio State 2 Tennessee 0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ohio State ace Alex Wimmers threw eight quality innings and the Buckeyes scored just enough to close out its Arby’s Classic weekend with a 2-0 win over Tennessee in the second of two games Sunday in cold, gray and wet Knoxville. In the team’s first game of the day, Ohio State lost a 5-4 decision to Connecticut and with the Sunday split, Ohio State is now 9-4 on the season.

Wimmers improved to 4-0 on the season – and to 4-0 in his career when starting after an Ohio State loss – by giving up just three hits while walking five and striking out 10. He issued all his walks in the first five innings before settling down nicely and cruising to the win.

#24 Kentucky 9 IUPU-Fort Wayne 3

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 22nd-ranked Kentucky baseball team used a three-run first-inning homer from sophomore Cory Farris, a two-run shot from senior Marcus Nidiffer and sophomore Chad Wright went 4-for-4 at the plate, helping UK claim a 9-3 win and series sweep over IPFW, Sunday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Wright, a native of Paducah, Ky., was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a sacrifice bunt to lead the Wildcats offensively, while Farris and Nidiffer each launched homers. Nidiffer, a fifth-year senior, finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Farris batted 1-for-2 with three RBI and a pair of walks. Farris’ three-run homer was his third of the season and Nidiffer’s roundtripper was his second of the season and his second on the weekend.

#27 Alabama 4 Stony Brook 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama baseball team escaped an eighth inning jam to hold off the Stony Brook Seawolves 4-3 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Alabama carried a 4-1 lead into the eighth inning and turned the game over to junior right-hander Brett Whitaker, but saw the Seawolves put the first five men on base as they closed the gap to 4-3.

SBU shortstop Chad Marshall greeted Whitaker with a single to center field and third baseman Stephen Marion followed with a ground ball single to right field.  First baseman Robert Dyer singled through the left side of the infield to load the bases with no outs.

#28 South Carolina 6 Brown 5 (10 innings)

Columbia, S.C. – Kyle Enders went 3-for-5 with four RBI including a two-out RBI base hit in the 10th inning to lift South Carolina to a 6-5 win over Brown and sweep a three-game series. The Gamecocks are now 11-4 on the year while Brown is 1-6 for the season. South Carolina returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 16 against Furman at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. First pitch is 7 p.m.

The see-saw affair saw the Gamecocks break the tie in extra innings. Freshman outfielder Evan Marzilli would open the 10th inning with a double down the left field line to put a runner on base for the Gamecocks. After a sacrifice bunt by Scott Wingo advanced Marzilli to third, the Bears loaded the bases with a pair of intentional walks to Whit Merrifield and Adrian Morales. Brown reliever Matt Kimball battled and struck out Nick Ebert to get the second out of the inning that set the stage for Enders’ at bat. On a 1-2 count, Enders drilled a pitch on the outside corner to right field for a single scoring Marzilli and giving the Gamecocks a one-run victory.

Tennessee 13 Marshall 8

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – It wasn’t necessarily the prettiest game, but the University of Tennessee baseball team (9-7) rode a pair of Zach Osborne home runs to a 13-8 victory over Marshall (7-6) in the final contest of the Arby’s Classic on a rainy Sunday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville. Following the first two home run performance of his career, Osborne was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

"That was a pretty ugly game, but those were some tough conditions out there," UT Head Coach Todd Raleigh said. "I thought we pitched pretty well and actually played pretty good defense all things considered. Offensively, we battled back and did what we had to do. Fortunately, we were able to take advantage of some errors that they made and get some timely hits."

Game 1: Texas AM Corpus Christi 8 Mississippi State 6

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders received three runs batted in including a two-run home run from Trey Hernandez in the opening game and received a pair of solid starts Brandon Orr and Jake Liedka as they split a doubleheader with Mississippi State on the final day of the Whataburger College Classic. The Islanders won the opener 8-6 and fell 4-2 in 10 innings in the nightcap.

"Hopefully, we can take the momentum we got from the performances of our starting pitchers and build on it," said Islander head coach Scott Malone. "We need to continue and go out and get good starts from our pitchers because it makes us a different team.

Game 2: Mississippi State 4 Texas AM Corpus-Christi 2 (10 innings)

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Mississippi State won its second extra inning game of the season Sunday night as the Baseball Bulldogs turned back Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-2 in 10 innings in the final game of the Whataburger Classic.

The Bulldogs salvaged the final of four games played in this year’s event. MSU split the final-day doubleheader as TAM-CC won the opener, 8-6. The Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak to move to 10-6 overall, while TAM-CC is now 8-7.

Texas AM Corpus-Christi Recap

Siena 10 Georgia 9

Designated hitter Gary DerHagopian smashed a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to lead Siena to a 10-9 win over Georgia Sunday at Foley Field.

With the victory, the Saints (4-11) avoided a three-game sweep as the Bulldogs saw their record fall to 8-8 overall.
