NAIA recap for March 10th

#1 Lubbock Christian split a double-header with Division II Angelo State, losing 10-4 and winning 9-1. RF Austin Lasprilla was 2-4 with four RBI for the Rams in the first game. In the second game, Shane Ingram got a win in his first start of the season, holding the Rams to one hit in four innings. The Chaparrals swept Northwestern Oklahoma State over the weekend, and their record is now 17-7. Ingram is their ERA leader, at 1.93. Upcoming: Oklahoma Christian March 12-13.

#2 Lewis-Clark State is 14-1. They got two wins last weekend against Division II Central Washington. The Warriors will play their first road games of this season at Concordia-Portland March 12-14 and Division II Saint Martin’s March 15-16.

#3 British Columbia swept four games against Corban to run their record to 14-1, 8-0 in NAIA West play. In one of the Corban games, a 9-2 win, reliever LHP Miles Verweel struck out four batters in one inning. The Thunderbirds get their first home games of the season March 13-14 against the College of Idaho.

#4 Azusa Pacific lost three of four to Biola, and their record is now 8-9, 1-8 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The fourth game of the series, a 2-1 win for Biola, was decided in the eight inning of a game scheduled for seven when Benji Sutherland was hit by a pitch from Michael Oeser with the bases loaded. Oeser had just entered the game, and the pitch that hit Sutherland was the first pitch he threw. Upcoming: at Cal Baptist March 11, Cal Baptist March 13.

#5 Embry-Riddle won two of three against Florida Memorial, 0-5, 2-1, and 6-0, and defeated Jamestown 16-2. In the first Florida Memorial game, Frank Sigler got a complete-game shutout, held the Eagles to five hits. In the third game Austin Quinn got a complete-game shutout, and his fourth win of the season. Upcoming: Trevecca Nazarene March 11-13, at Cumberland March 15-16.

#6 Lee is 16-4, 5-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Flames won two of three against Emmanuel, and one of the wins was a 5-0 complete game three-hitter pitched by Scott Swinson. Swinson is 4-0, 3.47 ERA, and leads the Flames with 25 strikeouts. Matthew Gilson is 4-0, 0.43 ERA, and has 24 strikeouts. Upcoming: at Brewton-Parker March 12-13.

#7 Southern Polytechnic leads the NAIA with 22 wins. They got their second loss of the season last week against Bethel, who is 11-1-1. David Harden is now 5-0, 2.12 ERA, with 35 strikeouts. Blake Mainor is also 5-0, with an ERA of 1.42, and 13 strikeouts. Upcoming: Berry March 12-13.

#8 Point Loma Nazarene swept four games against San Diego Christian, then split a double-header with Concordia-Irvine. In the first Concordia-Irvine game, Eagles starter Bennett Whitmore got his fifth win of the season in an impressive fashion. He struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced, and didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning. He finished afer 7 1/3 innings with ten strikeouts and two hits. In the second game, the Sea Lions got a two-RBI double by 3B Wes Kartch to complete a 7-5 win. The Sea Lions are now 15-4-1, and 7-2 in GSAC play. The Eagles are 10-10, 2-8 in GSAC play. Upcoming: at Concordia-Irvine March 13.

#9 Wayland Baptist lost two of three to University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, dropping their record to 12-8, 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Upcoming: Rogers State March 12-13.

#10 Fresno Pacific got two more wins against Concordia-Irvine, running their record to 13-1. The Sunbirds, Cal Baptist, and Vanguard all have one loss in Golden State Athletic Conference play. Upcoming: The Master’s March 13, Cal Baptist March 17-18.

Oklahoma City lost three of four to Cumberland, and their record is now 16-5. Upcoming: University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma March 11, at University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma March 13.

Cal Baptist swept four games against Westmont, and got a 6-2 win over Azusa Pacific, running their record to 15-5, 8-1 in GSAC play. LHP Taylor Siemens got a complete-game win against Azusa Pacific, running his record to 7-0, 1.48 ERA, 34 strikeouts. His seven wins are the most in the NAIA. Upcoming: Azusa Pacific March 11, at Azusa Pacific March 13.

Vanguard won three of four against The Master’s, and the Lions have a record of 16-2, 7-1 in GSAC play. Eric Krzysiac leads the Lions in hitting with a .500 average, and Brandon Godfrey is 3-0, 1.08 ERA. Upcoming: San Diego Christian March 11, at San Diego Christian March 13, at Cal State San Marcos March 16.

As of today, Southern Polytechnic is #1, Lubbock Christian is #7.
