William and Mary 3 #11 North Carolina 0

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The William and Mary Tribe baseball team traveled south to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to face the No. 11-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and came away with a 3-0 victory. With the win, the Tribe improves its record to 6-4, while UNC falls to 10-2 on the season.

“We played very well in all three facets of the game today to beat a team like UNC,” head coach Frank Leoni said after the game. “I am very proud our effort and our team today.”

On the mound, the Tribe received a great start from sophomore Cole Shain, who pitched five scoreless innings, surrendering only two hits while striking out a career-high five batters.

#12 Coastal Carolina 9 Wake Forest 4

CONWAY, S.C. – For the third straight day, the seventh-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (12-1) had to come-from-behind to beat an opponent. This time, the Chants scored four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to defeat Wake Forest (6-7) 9-4 March 9 in Conway, S.C. Coastal has now won 10 games in a row.

Freshman Mike Hughes was making his first collegiate start, but gave up a double to Patrick Blair and a home run to Steven Brooks to quickly fall behind 2-0. Coastal answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Redshirt-sophomore Tommy La Stella doubled with one out. He went to third on a flyout from senior Jose Iglesias and scored on a ground ball by sophomore Daniel Bowman that got past Steven Kroker.

#13 Miami (FL) 19 UCF 2

ORLANDO – The 13th-ranked University of Miami baseball team recorded season-highs for runs and hits as the Hurricanes cruised to a 19-2 victory over UCF Tuesday night at Jay Bergman Field. Stephen Perez led UM’s offensive attack, going 4-for-6 with six RBI while starter Steven Ewing (2-0) pitched well for the second straight start to open his career as Hurricanes improved to 8-3 on the season.

Perez, who had just four RBI in 10 games coming in, recorded a third of UM’s 18 RBI on the night. The highlight of his performance at the plate came in the seventh, when his first career homer came in the form of a grand slam blast to right that put the `Canes up 13 at the time.

#30 NC State 14 North Carolina A&T 10

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State (11-1) scored double digit runs for the fifth straight game in a 14-10 win over North Carolina A&T (3-7). The Wolfpack’s hot hitting continued, racking up 18 hits over eight innings. Drew Poulk and Kyle Wilson both extended their hitting streaks to 12 games.

Anthony Tzamtzis (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win, while Garrett Braun (0-1) was handed the loss.

Wolfpack starter Danny Healey struggled with his command early, walking two batters in the first inning, but he managed to get out of trouble.

Boston College 11 Florida International 5

MIAMI, Fla. – The Boston College baseball team scored all of its runs with two outs in an 11-5 win against FIU Tuesday night at the FIU Baseball Stadium.

The Eagles pounded out 18 hits with everyone in the starting lineup recording a hit. The first seven players in the batting order each had a multiple hit game.

Juniors Matt Hamlet and Mickey Wiswall both had three hits, four RBI and two runs in the game. Hamlet hit his fourth double of the year while Wiswall recorded his third long ball. Senior Robbie Anston scored three times and had a double, his 10th extra base hit in 10 games. Sophomore Anthony Melchionda also hit a two-bagger.

Virginia Tech 4 Bryant 3

BLACKSBURG, Va.Steve Domecus’ two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning powered Virginia Tech to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over Bryant University at English Field on Tuesday night.

The win was the Hokies’ ninth straight, which marks their longest winning streak since taking 14 straight back in 1999. Tech improved to 9-2 on the season, while Bryant fell to 1-7.

Duke 5 Quinnipiac 0

CARY, N.C. – Freshman Chase Bebout and senior Christopher Manno combined for Duke’s third shutout in five days as the Blue Devils completed a two-game sweep of Quinnipiac with a 5-0 win Tuesday evening at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

In his first career start, Bebout (1-0) struck out six batters in five innings without issuing a walk to notch his first career win. He surrendered four hits – all singles – before Manno took over and tossed four scoreless frames out of the bullpen to notch his second career save.
