Saturday Thoughts

The Binghamton Bearcats picked up a shocking win on Friday night over the Tennessee Volunteers but on Saturday afternoon, the struggles continued. Kennesaw State ended up grabbing a 4-2 victory over the Volunteers behind a strong pitching performances from Josh Carr and J.B. Johnson

to put the Volunteers losing streak at 2. Tennessee would come back in their second game on Saturday by destroying the Binghamton Bearcats by a score of 19-2.

Texas offensive struggles continued on Saturday as they lost to the Houston Cougars by a score of 1-0. The Longhorns have a 7-3 overall record but have scored five runs or less in five games already this season. My biggest question all year with the Longhorns was the fact they were going to rely too heavily on the pitching staff while not having enough offense. They currently have a team batting average of .237 while only having one hitter with an average over .300 in Cameron Rupp. He is hitting .333 with a homer and seven RBI. The line for the Longhorns to win and lose games right now is very slim and could continue to be an issue the rest of the season. As of right now, I think TCU is the best team in Texas ahead of both Rice and Texas.

The Harvard Crimson opened their 2010 campaign today against Notre Dame and Stetson. In the first game, Harvard defeated the Fighting Irish by a score of 9-6 with Samuel Franklin leading the offense by going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. In the nightcap against Stetson, the Crimson had Samuel Franklin and Dan Zailskas both go 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI. They will face off against Kansas State on Sunday at 11:30am to roundout the weekend trip to Florida.

Florida State has some question marks coming into this weekend but have answered mine by beating Georgia 12-1 and 9-2 in the first two games of the series. I have been most impressed by the pitching staff showing the grit against a solid SEC squad this weekend.

The last thing for tonight is congratulations to Stony Brook head coach Matt Senk for winning his 500th game with a 3-2 victory over Akron on Saturday. He is the first coach in school history to reach 500 wins and only the third in America East history to reach the mark.

We will be running a Live Chat tonight at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific which can be checked out by clicking here.
