2010 Golden Spikes Award Watch List

(DURHAM, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List Thursday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2010 for the 33rd time.
The watch list features 50 of the nation’s top amateur talents, and it will be a “rolling” list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award, to be presented live on Tuesday, July 13, at the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Anaheim, Calif.
CBB 2010 Preseason Regional Projections
Although the season has yet to begin, it is never too early to begin speculating about which 64 teams will make it to Regionals and potentially Omaha. Keep in mind nobody has played any games yet All of this is based on preseason expectations, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to do for discussion.

As many of you can see, we have changed our setup to begin the season. I will be tweaking the design to make it more fan-friendly then it currently is but if you have any suggestions or ideas feel free to email me by clicking here. We will be running a Live Chat on Friday at 12 noon eastern to celebrate the start of the College Baseball season. I will run the chat as long as people are interested as I will be listening, watching, and getting updates from a ton of games this weekend.
NAIA recap for February 17
After splitting four double-headers, #1 Lubbock Christian finally moved above .500 with an 11-0 win over Lindenwood (8-2, with two wins over Auburn-Montgomery). Paul Gonzalez, Hunter Scott, and Tanner Vickers combined for the shutout. 2B Richard Bohlken went 2-3 with three RBI. Joe Staley leads the defending champions in hitting with a .435 average, and Paul Gonzalez is 1-0, 0.00 ERA, and 15 strikeouts with 12 1/3 innings pitched. Upcoming: Texas-Brownsville Feb. 19-20.
#2 Lewis-Clark State started their season the same way as 2009, with an opening weekend loss to Concordia-Portland. CF Calvin Nagy scored the winning run in the top of the ninth to give Concordia a 7-6 win, but the key performance for the Cavaliers was by reliever RHP Steven Taft, who came on in the fifth inning, and pitched four scoreless innings, scattering four hits, and picking off two baserunners. 2010 Preseason America East Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— University of Maine is the favorite of the head coaches to capture the 2010 America East Baseball Championship in what would be the Black Bears’ first conference title since 2006. Maine, which finished fifth in 2009, garnered three of a possible five first-place votes and 23 total points. Head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
Stony Brook University, the 2008 America East Champion, was selected second with two first-place votes and 21 points, and Binghamton University, last year’s regular-season and tournament champion, finished third with the final first-place vote and 19 points. University at Albany (13 points), University of Hartford (9) and UMBC (5) rounded out the six-team poll.
2010 Preseason Patriot League Poll

Center Valley, Pa. – Defending Patriot League Baseball champion Army has been selected by coaches and sports information directors to claim the crown again in 2010, as the Black Knights were picked first in the League’s preseason poll announced on Wednesday.
Army garnered 46 points and eight first-place votes to take the spot in the poll. The Black Knights were followed by Bucknell, which had 39 points and the remaining four first-place votes. Holy Cross was picked third with 35 points, and followed in order by Navy (27), Lafayette (21) and Lehigh (12). Patriot League Baseball head coaches and sports information directors voted in the poll, and were not eligible to vote for their own teams.
2010 SEC Preseason Coaches Poll

The LSU Tigers are predicted to repeat as the 2010 Southeastern Conference baseball champions, as voted by the league’s 12 baseball coaches in the 19th annual preseason SEC poll.
The Tigers, ranked No. 2 nationally in multiple preseason polls, seek to capture their league-leading 15th SEC Championship. The Tigers return eight position players with starting experience and 10 pitchers from their 2009 squad which claimed the NCAA National Championship.

Vanderbilt RHP Sonny Gray recently had a live chat with fans on VUCommodores.com. Gray had a solid freshman season in 2009 where he went 5-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 58.2 innings while striking out 72 batters. You can check out the video interview below.
