2010 NEC Preseason Poll

NECRelease Somerset, NJ – Wagner won a plurality of first-place votes to finish atop the 2010 Northeast Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.  The league office released the results of the annual survey as a prelude to its 24th season on the diamond.

Flying high following the program’s first ever regular season conference crown last spring, the Seahawks received four top nods to finish one spot in front of defending NEC Tournament champion Monmouth and its two first-place votes.

Conference USA releases 2010 TV Schedule

ConferenceUSA Conference USA has announced its preliminary baseball television schedule for the 2010 season. The schedule currently features games to appear nationally on CBS College Sports as well as regionally on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS), Bright House Networks and Cox Sports Television. Additional games remain a possibility and will be announced at a later date.

Marc Fink added to Seton Hall Coaching Staff

FinkPhoto SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball team has hired Marc Fink to the position of volunteer assistant coach.  The announcement was made by head coach Rob Sheppard as Fink joins the seventh year head coach following a three-year coaching stint with Jackson Memorial High School.

Andy Baylock selected for ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award

AndyBaylockUConn MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Former University of Connecticut baseball head coach Andy Baylock has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez award is the highest honor given out by the ABCA. Baylock will be presented the award on January 7, 2011, during the ABCA Convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Binghamton plans new Stadium

BinghamtonLogo The Binghamton baseball program will be moving into a new stadium for the start of the 2012 season. The university announced recently that they will rebuild current Varsity Field by adding many different amenities. The new field will feature Synthetic Turf infield and outfield while adding stadium seating. There are a couple more highlights as they will also add professional style dugouts and lights.

2010 Preseason MAAC Poll and Team

MAACBaseball Edison, N.J. – Manhattan College has been chosen as the favorite to take the 2010 MAAC Baseball title, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Manhattan finished with 79 points in the poll, while Marist College finished second (71).  Canisius College placed third with 65 points.  Rider University placed fourth (43), followed by Siena College (42), Fairfield University (40), Niagara University (29), Saint Peter’s College (20), and Iona College (16).

Atlantic Sun releases Preseason Coaches Poll and Team

atlantic-sun-logo MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun conference announced its baseball preseason coaches’ poll and all-conference honors Wednesday with FGCU earning the nod as the conference favorite.

The Eagles also cleaned up in the superlative awards with first baseman Zach Maxfield earned the preseason Player of the Year honors and Chris Sale picked up the Pitcher of the Year nod by a unanimous decision.

He is entering his second season as the head coach and seventh season at Kentucky. Last season, he led the Wildcats to a 28-26 overall record while going 12-18 in SEC play to miss out on the conference tournament.

Murphy and Pickler added to Padres Organization

Pat-Murphy Former Arizona State head coach Pat Murphy and former Arizona assistant coach Scott Pickler were hired on Tuesday by the San Diego Padres. Murphy comes over to the Padres after being the head coach of the Sun Devils since 1995. He was fired in the fall by athletic director Lisa Love. He will serve as a special assistant to baseball operations. Pickler served last season as an assistant coach with the Arizona Wildcats and will be a scout for the Padres during the 2010 season.

Point Loma Nazarene defeats UC San Diego

Allen Boyer Point Loma Nazarene, last year’s NAIA runner-up, defeated UC San Diego, ranked #3 in Division II, 8-6.

This game was arguably the best college baseball matchup prior to the start of the Division I season. The Sea Lions started their season 3-0-1 against respectable opposition. The Tritons got an easy win against San Diego Christian in their season opener the previous day.

2010 Southland Conference Preseason Polls

TexasStateBaseball FRISCO, Texas - Texas State is favored to win its fourth Southland Conference regular-season baseball championship by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Bobcats received five first-place votes and 114 points in the coaches’ poll and five first-place votes and 112 points in the SID poll. Texas State returns 19 letterwinners, five starters and nine pitchers from a Bobcat squad that won its first regular-season title since 1997 and posted its best record in program history with 41 overall wins and 24 league wins.
