Welcome to my yearly Pre-season 2010 college baseball top 100 (draft eligible) players. This list is not meant to be a prediction of draft position, although in some sense it wont be too far off. My list is more about who I think will have more success at the next level. This is not a science. It is purely my opinion after watching video, talking to scouts and scouting some of the players personally. This is the pre-season list which in all honesty shouldn’t really even be attempted. A chunk of these players wont even be in the story by years end and many others will need to be included. This list is purely a vehicle to make you aware of what the college landscape and the MLB draft might look like. I will do this all over again after the college season is over. East Carolina looking to take next step

Nathan Summer of The Daily Reflector checks in on the East Carolina program which is looking to take the next step this season with a trip to Omaha. Last season, the Pirates finished with a 46-20 overall record while going 17-7 in Conference USA. They also advanced to the Super Regional round where they bowed out with back to back losses to North Carolina to end the season.

Oregon preparing for the 2010 Season

Jeff Smith of The Oregonian wrote an interesting article about the Oregon Ducks baseball program talking about how they are trying to improve during the 2010 season. Oregon last season went a disappointing 14-42 overall and 4-23 in the Pac-10 conference in the school’s first season of college baseball after a 28 year hiatus.

SEC releases 2010 TV Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference has announced its 2010 SEC Baseball television schedule, the first under a new 15-year contract with ESPN. The regular-season package will include 46 broadcasts in 2010, up from eight games in 2009. In addition, all games from the 2010 SEC Tournament will continue to be broadcast, with the championship game airing nationally on ESPN2.

South Carolina’s Bradley out for 4-8 Weeks

Jackie Bradley Jr. will be missing the next 4-8 weeks with a broken hand he suffered in practice. He was a consensus Freshman All-American last season for the Gamecocks after hitting 349 (89-for-255) with 11 HR and 46 RBI. This injury should not affect the Gamecocks SEC title chances as eight weeks from now, they will open SEC play against Tennessee.

FSU vacates four wins from 2006-2007 Season

The Florida State baseball program has officially vacated four victories (including one NCAA win) from the 2006-2007 NCAA Baseball season. This comes from the investigation into the FSU athletic department which also sees the football team lose 12 wins and also affects over ten other sports in Tallahassee.

East Carolina’s Austin Homan awarded Number 23

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Junior outfielder Austin Homan will wear East Carolina’s honorary No. 23 jersey during the 2010 season according to an announcement made by head coach Billy Godwin during the program’s annual "Meet the Pirates" fan session, which was held inside the Murphy Center Saturday afternoon.

The No. 23 jersey, which was the number worn by the late ECU Head Coach Keith LeClair throughout his coaching and playing career, became an honorary number for the Pirate baseball program in 2003.

Cavs struggling with Weather Issues

The Daily Progress has a very interesting article about the Virginia baseball program struggling with the weather around Charlottesville. The Cavs have no had a chance to practice outdoors since practice began and with over two feet of snow at Davenport Field are unlikely to do so before the opener against East Carolina on Feb. 19th.

Ga Tech’s Deck McGuire talks about 2010 Season

Georgia Tech RHP Deck McGuire recently sat down with Kyle Tait of WREK. He discusses his expectations for the 2010 season where he is expected to be one of the top pitchers in the ACC and the country.
