#5 Georgia Tech 10 Georgia Southern 0

MarkPopeGT STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore Mark Pope combined with freshman Luke Bard for a four-hit shutout and the offense scored double-digit runs for the third straight game, as the No. 3 Georgia Tech baseball team defeated Georgia Southern, 10-0, Tuesday evening in Statesboro, Ga.

Tuesday’s shutout was Georgia Tech`s third in the first four games of the season, the most in school history after four games played. The three runs allowed through four games are tied for the fewest allowed to this point in school history.

#12 North Carolina 12 UNC-Greensboro 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Garrett Davis pitched a career-high five innings to record his first career victory over UNC Greensboro 12-2 Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels bashed 16 hits as nine different Carolina hitters hit safely in the win. No. 11 North Carolina improves to 4-0 while UNC Greensboro falls to 3-1 on the year.

The Tar Heels stranded 11 base runners, but still managed to score in all but two innings. Six different players stole a base Tuesday, including Levi Michael who swiped two, en route to a season-high seven stolen bases.

Davis (1-0) allowed two runs on two hits in five innings. Zach Bernard, Chris Munnelly, R.C. Orlan, Greg Holt and Cody Penny all pitched in relief – all rendering no runs.

#19 Coastal Carolina 2 Wake Forest 0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (3-1) used a solid outing from its pitching staff and made the two runs it had in the first four innings hold up in a 2-0 shutout of Wake Forest (2-3) Feb. 23 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Redshirt-junior Jim Birmingham earned the first win of his Coastal career, pitching five shutout innings.

The Chanticleers broke through with a run in the top of the third. Redshirt-senior Chance Gilmore opened the frame with a single to right. He stole second and would score on a two-out double to the right field gap by junior Rico Noel. Birmingham then pitched his way out of a jam in the bottom of the third. Birmingham walked Mark Rhine with one out. Patrick Blair then singled to right field to put two runners on. Both Rhine and Blair would steal a base, putting two runners in scoring position. Birmingham battled back as the lefty struck out Ryan Semeniuk and got Steven Brooks to fly out to end the threat.

NC State 9 Campbell 8

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State had to go to extra innings against Campbell, but Andrew Ciencin came threw for the Wolfpack driving in Dallas Poulk for the game winning run. Losing both games to the Camels a year ago, the Wolfpack exacted revenge with a 9-8 win in a game that lasted 11 innings and 4 hours and 35 minutes. The win moved NC State to 4-0 and Campbell to 2-2.

Rob Chamra (1-0) picked up the win, while Ben Brown (0-2) was given the loss.
