UC-RiversideMichaelHur Michael Hur powered UC Riverside to a three-game sweep of Brigham Young to collect Big West Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Daniel Bibona tossed seven innings of shutout ball to earn the win for UC Irvine and the Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.

 

Hur Drives In Six, Hits .462 In Highlander Sweep
Michael Hur (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./Valencia HS) led the UC Riverside offense in a three-game sweep of Brigham Young to command the first Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award of the 2010 season.

The senior outfielder batted .462 with four runs scored and six RBI as the Highlanders rolled to 12-11, 6-4 and 11-6 victories against the Cougars.  He had at least one hit and one RBI in all three games.

Hur drove in six of UCR’s 27 runs in the sweep.  In the 11-6 win, he had a 3-for-5 performance with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI.

Hur posted a 2-for-6 effort with two RBI on opening night in the 12-11 triumph.  He went 1-for-2 with an RBI in game two of the series.

He owns a seven-game hitting streak dating back to last season.  He also has 12 RBIs over the last five games dating back to last season.

Bibona Earns Complete Game Shutout For UC Irvine

All-American Daniel Bibona (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) continued to dominate on the mound as he led UC Irvine to a season-opening win over Loyola DanielBibonaUC-Irvine Marymount for Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Bibona, the 2009 Big West Pitcher of the Year, tossed seven innings of shutout baseball in the Anteaters’ 5-1 win over the Lions.  He allowed seven hits and walked none while striking out 10 batters.

Bibona retired six straight to open the game, including four on strike outs.  He did not allow a Lion baserunner to reach second base until the fourth inning.  LMU had runners on first and third in the seventh but Bibona fanned two of the next three batters to escape without any damage.

The win was Bibona’s eighth consecutive victory going back to 2009.
