LoganDarnellUK Here are my Top Ten storylines for College Baseball action on February 21st.

1. Texas dropped another game to New Mexico to lose their opening series against the Lobos. You can check out William’s full article on the game by clicking here.

2. Oregon picked up their first loss of the season today at Pepperdine by a score of 11-7. Ducks starter Christian Jones gave up seven runs in his 3.1 innings of work putting them behind the eight ball early on.

3. Kentucky has started off 3-0 this season behind two strong weekend starts from junior LHP Logan Darnell and freshman Taylor Rogers. Darnell went six innings while allowing seven hits and allowing only two runs against nationally ranked Coastal Carolina. Rogers on the other hand went 7.2 shutout innings allowing six hits.

4. Ohio State defeated Richmond 20-9 today which was OSU head coach Bob Todd’s 1,000th career victory.

5. Heading into this weekend, the Virginia and East Carolina series was one of the best series to watch and it lived up to the billing as the Cavs won 14-11 to take the rubber game of the series.

6. Texas Tech showed a good start to the season during this weekend defeating both Michigan and Jacksonville State twice. Has Dan Spencer turned around the Red Raiders program?

7. Florida used a three-run bottom of the ninth to force extra innings against South Florida before defeating them in the bottom of the tenth to sweep the series. I thought South Florida would be able to win at least a game this weekend against the Gators.

8. Nice start to the season for UC-Irvine as they completed their weekend sweep of Loyola-Marymount 19-9. The story of the game was that Eric Pettis got his first start since the 2008 season. He went six innings giving up only three runs.

9. Vanderbilt started the season with a three game sweep over Niagara by a combined score of 46-5 but we will know if the Commodores are for real when they head out to the West Coast to play Oklahoma State, UCLA, and USC.

10. The long national nightmare is over with Cal-State Fullerton finally getting their first win of the season in a 8-1 victory over Long Beach State backed by the strong pitching of Tyler Pill. He pitched seven innings allowing five hits and only one run.
