Chad Jones who turned heads during the 2009 College World Series has decided to enter the pro football draft this spring. Jones is one of the top college safeties in the nation and is expected to be selected in the Top 2 rounds of the NFL draft. This is a major loss for the Tigers but I sort of expected this would happen once I paid attention to Jones on the football field.

Fullerton’s Serrano previews 2010 Season
Cal-State Fullerton Media Relations recently sat down with head coach Dave Serrano to preview the 2010 season. The Titans last year finished with a 47-16 record and a 17-7 record in Big West Conference play. The Titans won the Fullerton Regional by going a perfect 3-0 before sweeping Louisville in the Super Regional round to make it to the College World Series. In Omaha, Fullerton had two disappointing games losing to Arkansas 10-6 and Virginia 7-5 which ended the season. You can check out the the full video interview below.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 12 Deck McGuire (Georgia Tech)
The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 12 in our countdown with junior RHP Deck McGuire from Georgia Tech. He is from Richmond Virginia and attended Deep Run High School. He had a solid high school career as he went 10-1 with a 1.35 ERA while striking out 129 batters during his senior season as he was named Virginia Player of the Year.
Florida Gulf Coast releases 2010 Schedule

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University baseball head coach Dave Tollett released the Eagles 2010 schedule on Friday and it includes 27 games at Swanson Stadium, 11 games against BCS Conference schools and 15 games against NCAA Regional teams, two of which advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals last season.
The Eagles enter their third year as a member of Division I, and have already claimed two A-Sun regular season titles. This season, the 38th ranked Eagles will be eligible for postseason play for the first time in the program’s history. The Eagles look to defend their back-to-back A-Sun regular season titles as they welcome 13 newcomers to a squad that returns seven position starters and four starting pitchers.
UNC Asheville releases 2010 Schedule

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Fourteen games at McCormick Field, a game at Tennessee plus a first-time meeting with Mars Hill highlights the 2010 UNC Asheville baseball schedule that was announced by first-year Bulldog coach Tom Smith on Friday.
"Our schedule will be tough but it a schedule that I think we can be competitive with," commented Smith. "We’re excited about playing 14 games at McCormick Field and can’t thank the city of Asheville, and the Asheville Tourists enough for allowing us to play down there."
Top 100 Countdown: Number 13 Michael Choice (UT-Arlington)

We continue the list today with number 13 in our countdown with junior outfielder Michael Choice from UT-Arlington. He is from Arlington Texas and attended Mansfield Timberview High School. He hit hit .506 as a senior with 42 hits, 17 stolen bases and six home runs while hitting .443 as a junior with 35 hits, nine stolen bases and two homers en route to earning first team All-District 15-4A honors as a junior second baseman. He was also a first team All-District 15-4A pick as a sophomore catcher.
Blackwood Earns 2009 Rawlings-NAIA National Baseball Coach of the Year
KANSAS CITY, MO – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that Lubbock Christian University (TX) head coach Nathan Blackwood has been named the 2009 Rawlings-NAIA National Baseball Coach of the Year. The award was presented to coach Blackwood at the 2010 Rawlings-NAIA Awards Luncheon Friday in Dallas, Texas. The luncheon is part of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Convention which runs from Jan. 7-10 at the Dallas Hilton Anatole Hotel. Click here for a CBB interview with Blackwood.
Blackwood has compiled a 281-89 (.759) record in six seasons at Lubbock Christian. The 2009 season saw the Chaps win their second World Series title and their first since 1983. Going 52-8 last year, Lubbock Christian claimed the Sooner Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship, hosted and won the “Field No. 1” Opening Round Championship. Former UMass-Lowell manager Jim Stone set for Induction
Boston Globe correspondent John Vellante recently wrote a fantastic article on former UMass-Lowell manager Jim Stone who won over 800 games in his 37 year career. He had 11 NCAA Northeast Regional Appearances, two Division 2 College World Series Appearances and was named NEIBA Coach of the Year seven times while being named ABCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year on five occasions. He told Vellante that his biggest accomplishment was sending over 50 players onto professional baseball whether the minor leagues or independent ball. He is set to be inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame tonight.

We continue the list today with number 14 in our countdown with sophomore RHP Gerrit Cole from UCLA. He is from Santa Ana, California as he attended Orange Lutheran High School where he was a three year letterwinner playing under Mike Grahovac. He had an outstanding senior season where he went 8-2 with a 0.46 ERA while totaling 121 strikeouts and walking 18 batters in 75.2 innings. Heading into the 2008 MLB Draft, Perfect Game Crosschecker rated him the best high school player in the country while Baseball America had him fourth. Cole was selected by the New York Yankees with the 28th overall selection as he slid as he told many teams he wanted to attend college. Cole lived up to his side of the bargain as he refused a multi-million dollar contract to attend UCLA.
