Maine continues Renovations at Mahaney Diamond

MahaneyDiamond ORONO, Maine — University of Maine athletic director Blake James and head baseball coach Steve Trimper are pleased to announce continuing renovations at Mahaney Diamond.

After completing a major overhaul one year ago by installing Fieldturf as the playing surface, state-of-the-art dugouts are now in the process of being constructed. The new dugouts will expand the current dugouts by an additional 16 feet, and add new drainage. Work began on the project in late December and is expected to be completed before Maine’s home opener against Lehigh on March 26th.

Kevin Tucker added to Nevada Coaching Staff

KevinTuckerNevada Reno, Nev. – University of Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers has added Kevin Tucker to the staff for the 2010 season.  Tucker will serve as the volunteer assistant working with the Wolf Pack outfielders and hitters.

"Kevin brings a vast amount of division one coaching experience to our staff," said Powers.  "His time as a coach in two very competitive conferences will blend well with our coaching staff and provide another quality resource for our players to learn from.  We are extremely pleased to have Kevin as part of our 2010 coaching staff."

Ole Miss adds Justin Dedman As Director of Operations

MikeBiancoOleMiss OXFORD, Miss. - Justin Dedman has joined the Ole Miss baseball staff, filling the position of Director of Baseball Operations head coach Mike Bianco announced on Friday.

Dedman fills the position previously held by Rob Francis, who has since taken a position as a volunteer assistant coach with the Rebel coaching staff upon the promotion of Matt Mossberg to the position of a full-time assistant.

Villanova’s Szczur Leading on Gridiron and Diamond

MattSzczur Strength and Conditioning coach Stephen King of Villanova University recently wrote a fantastic article for the magazine Training & Conditioning. He details the workouts that Szczur does during the football and baseball seasons as he is a member of both squads. Szczur was outstanding this season on the football field leading the Villanova Wildcats to the FCS Championship by having over 2200 all purpose yards in 15 games. He led the baseball program last season with a .346 average in 48 games.

Cole and Bauer look to lead UCLA to CWS

TrevorBauerUCLA Our good friend over at Rivals.com Kendall Rogers recently did an excellent feature on Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer. Both of these sophomores are expected to led the Bruins back into the hunt for a National Championship. Cole was ranked 14th and Bauer was 26th on our Top 100 countdown which was recently finished.

Nashville Outlaws added to The Prospect League

Nashville Outlaws Nashville, TN – The Nashville Outlaws baseball team was introduced today as the newest members of the Prospect League to begin play this summer.  The Outlaws take the field in June and play 56 games through August which, 28 games will be played in Nashville. The Outlaws home games will be played at Hawkins Field on the campus of Vanderbilt University.

LSU Baseball Staff set for Raises

PaulMainieri LSU recently announced that they are seeking approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors to raise the salaries of a few coaches. One of the coaches getting a raise is Paul Mainieri whose salary is going to raise from $525,000 per season to $625,000. LSU is also seeking increases to the baseball assistants David Grewe and Javi Sanchez.. Grewe’s salary will increase by $10,000 to $150,000 while Sanchez’s will go up $15,000 to $90,000 annually.

New Orleans making move down to Division III

Due to financial constraints, UNO has decided to move their athletic program from Division I to Division III. The move was necessary for the Privateers in order to continue participating in NCAA-sanctioned sports. In an act of kindness, the Sun Belt Conference unanimously voted to waive a $500,000 fee for schools that voluntarily leave the conference, helping New Orleans make their transition beginning on July 1, 2010.

Clint Stoy added to New Mexico Coaching Staff

ClintStoryNM ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico Lobo baseball team announced the addition of Clint Stoy as a volunteer assistant coach today. Stoy brings seven years of coaching experience and four years of collegiate baseball experience to New Mexico. Stoy will assist with hitting, outfield and coach first base.

"Clint Stoy is a great addition to the program," said head coach Ray Birmingham. "He has been to some great places. His greatest recommendation came from Dave Burroughs, who coaches Cowley County Community College and who I think the world of. Clint has many years of experience at every level and he has the greatest amount of energy I’ve ever seen in a young man. He is going to be special for our program."

Top 100 Countdown: Number 1 Anthony Ranaudo (LSU)

AnthonyRanaudoLSU The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country.

The list concludes today with number 1 in our countdown with junior RHP Anthony Ranaudo from LSU. He is from Jackson, New Jersey and attended St. Rose High School. As a senior, he posted a 5-2 record on the mound with a 1.32 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 14 walks in 49 innings. He was named a 2007 Rawlings All-America selection while picking up all-state, all-county and all-division awards. As a junior, he recorded a 7-0 mark with a 0.96 ERA and 99 strikeouts. During his sophomore season, he pitched back-to-back no-hit games while leading St. Rose to the New Jersey state title by pitching a two-hit shutout and hit a three-run homer in the state championship game.

UT-Arlington names K.J. Hendricks Assistant Baseball Coach

KJHendricksUTA ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington head baseball coach Darin Thomas announced on Wednesday that K.J. Hendricks has been added to the Mavericks coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Hendricks, although new to the position, is no stranger to the UTA baseball program after spending each of the past two seasons on the Maverick coaching staff as a volunteer assistant (2009) and team chaplain (2008).

Miami (OH) Names Former RedHawk George Stegmiller Honorary Coach for 2010
