Columbia Hosts Indoor Clinic with the WHEELS School

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE

ColumbiaBaseball NEW YORK – After a semester-long partnership with the WHEELS middle school in Washington Heights, Columbia’s baseball team hosted a clinic in the University Gym in December, teaching the youngsters the finer points of the game.

Hitting, pitching and fielding were each on display during the clinic as a number of the Lions chipped in to share their skills with the kids.  After cancelling a clinic earlier in the year due to rain, Columbia head coach Brett Boretti offered to set up a date indoors that would let the kids bat in the cages and hang out with their college friends one more time before the holidays.

In conjunction with Level the Field, a nonprofit started by women’s soccer alumna Erica Woda ’04CC, Associate Athletics Director for Enrichment Services Jackie Blackett was also in attendance to lend a hand during the day.

The baseball season is right around the corner as Columbia will open the 2010 season on Friday, March 5 at UNLV at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
