Wagner set to retire Andrew Bailey’s Number

WagnerBaseball Staten Island, NY - On the heels of 2006 Graduate Andrew Bailey’s Rookie of the Year campaign with the Oakland A’s, Wagner College Athletic Director Walt Hameline and head baseball coach Joe Litterio have announced that the school will retire Bailey’s number. Bailey, who played for the Green & White from 2003-2006, will have his Seahawk number 17 retired at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Quinnipiac on Thursday, January 28 at 7:00 pm.

Last year, the hard-throwing right-hander, who was also the only rookie selected to the All-Star game, saved an Oakland rookie-record 26 saves (in 30 chances) with a 6-3 record, a 1.84 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) and 91 strikeouts against 24 walks in 83 1/3 innings over 68 appearances.

Bailey will be the fourth Seahawk to have his number retired joining Joe Doyle (Baseball), Alonzo Patterson (Football) and Terrance Bailey (Men’s Basketball).
