POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Athletics Department released the 2010 schedule for the baseball team on Tuesday. The Red Foxes have 54 games on the regular-season schedule, which will begin on Feb. 19 with a three-game series at James Madison. Marist will have 18 home games at McCann Baseball Field.
Prior to conference play, the Red Foxes will also take on the likes of Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State, UNC Charlotte, Longwood, George Washington, Temple, Villanova and Saint Joseph’s. Marist’s home opener will also be its conference opener, as the Red Foxes will host Manhattan for a doubleheader on March 27 before the teams conclude the three-game set the following day. The Red Foxes’ longest homestand of the season will be six games between April 10-14, as they will face Siena in a three-game series, Albany for a single game and Brown for a doubleheader.
Marist will once again face Hudson Valley rival Army at Dutchess Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Rays’ short-season Class A affiliate. The Red Foxes will take on the Black Knights in Fishkill on Wednesday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
The Red Foxes will conclude their home schedule with a three-game series against Canisius May 15-16, and will close out the regular season with a three-game set at Fairfield on May 20-21. The 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament will return to Dutchess Stadium, and will be held from May 26-29.
The 2010 edition of the Red Foxes will be under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Tracz. Last year’s team reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history. Two Second Team All-MAAC selections from last season – red-shirt junior catcher Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) and junior pitcher Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) – return this season. In all, Marist will return nine position players and six pitchers from last year’s squad.
