AustinGraham ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Fourteen games at McCormick Field, a game at Tennessee plus a first-time meeting with Mars Hill highlights the 2010 UNC Asheville baseball schedule that was announced by first-year Bulldog coach Tom Smith on Friday.

"Our schedule will be tough but it a schedule that I think we can be competitive with," commented Smith. "We’re excited about playing 14 games at McCormick Field and can’t thank the city of Asheville, and the Asheville Tourists enough for allowing us to play down there."

Asheville will play 14 games at McCormick Field this season with five of them being double-headers with the Asheville Tourists. The Bulldogs will play at 1 p.m. with the Tourists playing at 7 p.m. The first McCormick Field action for Asheville will be a double-header with VMI on April 3. The Bulldogs will then face the Asheville Tourists in an exhibition game on April 6.

The Tom Smith-era begins on Feb. 19 when the Bulldogs open the 2010 season at future Big South Conference member Campbell. Asheville will play a three-game series against the Camels followed by a three-game series the following weekend at College of Charleston (Feb. 26-28).

The Bulldogs play their first home game at Greenwood Field on March 3 against East Tennessee State. Later in the month, Asheville entertains Mars Hill for the first time ever on March 15 at Greenwood Field.

The men of Tom Smith begin Big South Conference play on the road at Radford (March 19-21) before hosting mountain rival Western Carolina on March 23.

The first college-pro double-header will be on April 15 when the Bulldogs take on USC Upstate.

The regular season concludes with a game at Tennessee on May 18 and a three-game Big South Conference series vs. Gardner-Webb at McCormick Field (May 20-22).

The UNC Asheville Athletics Department will begin selling season-ticket packages next week for Bulldog baseball.

"We’re excited about the season," admitted Smith. "We had a good fall as our guys worked hard and developed. I’m anxious to get started because we know Feb. 19th isn’t far away."
