CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois coach Dan Hartleb announced his team’s schedule for the 2010 season Tuesday, with the team slated to play in the second-annual Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge on Feb. 26-28, and tournaments at 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers East Carolina and Coastal Carolina early in the season. The Illini will face six NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in 2010 – East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Missouri, Dartmouth, Indiana and Ohio State.

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson today announced the Billikens’ 2010 schedule. The slate features a non-conference schedule that includes perennial baseball powers Ohio State, Kansas, Mississippi and Arkansas. In addition, SLU will play a number of regional rivals and a 27-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule.
"Our schedule features a good balance, which includes top-notch programs from the SEC including College World Series participant Arkansas and super-regional participant Ole Miss," third-year head coach Darin Hendrickson said. "We have also scheduled Midwest powers Kansas, Missouri State, Eastern Illinois and a very good Murray State team. We are also excited about the challenge that awaits us in the A-10. The league’s rotating schedule puts us on the road at three of the top teams in our league while we host last year’s regular-season champion Dayton and tournament champion Xavier. We feel our league has improved, and many teams are scheduling accordingly. This schedule will undoubtedly have us ready for an exciting 2010 season."
The College Baseball Blog starts our series of interviews with head coaches around the nation today with Steve Rodriguez from Pepperdine. They are coming off a 31-23 campaign while going 12-9 in West Coast Conference play which was good enough for a tie for third place. He is entering his seventh season in charge of the Waves program winning three consecutive West Coast Conference titles from 2004-2006.

We continue the list today with number 42 in our countdown with LSU sophomore outfielder Mikie Mahtook. He is from Lafayette Louisiana and attended St. Thomas More High School. He had an outstanding senior season a .450 average with 13 home runs, 45 RBI and 25 stolen bases while being named 2008 First Team All-State. He was selected in the 2008 MLB Draft in the 39th round but decided to head to LSU.

Furman signs Eight for 2010-2011 Season
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman head baseball coach Ron Smith today announced the signing of eight players to national letters of intent, including six from South Carolina.
"We are very happy with this group and pleased we could stay in state for several of them," said Smith on Tuesday. "Coach (Britt) Reames and coach (Jeff) Whitfield deserve a tremendous amount of credit for identifying these fine young men and their talent and getting them to Furman."

(DURHAM, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced the remaining two members of the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team coaching staff on Tuesday. The coaches will team with manager Bill Kinneberg and pitching coach Dave Serrano next summer.

VESTAL, N.Y.– For the first time in program history, Binghamton University baseball will face the defending national champions. Eighteenth-year head coach Tim Sinicki’s Bearcats will face reigning NCAA champion LSU in a single game in Baton Rouge on March 31. But BU will open its 2010 season one month earlier with a three-game series at Longwood (Va.) on February 27-28.

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball head coach Nick Restaino announced the team’s 2010 schedule today, as the Rams will begin play on February 19th in Virginia.
Except for 1944, the Fordham baseball program has played every year since 1859 and stands as the winningest program in NCAA history. The Rams will be competing for their fifth Atlantic 10 Championship tournament berth in the last seven years, in hopes of being at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will take place May 26-29 at Campbell’s Field in Camden, New Jersey.

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State University Athletics Department and extended baseball family mourns the loss of Richard Schoonover, who passed away Monday (Dec. 7). Schoonover, 81, served as an assistant coach at Kent State on 1986 and 1989 and pitching coach from 1990-1996.
"Very few men have lived a life as full as Dick Schoonover," sixth-year Kent State baseball head coach Scott Stricklin said. "He loved his family and he loved the game of baseball. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing him loved and respected him. He was one of the finest people I have ever met and he will be dearly missed.

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head coach Paul Stevens today (Dec. 7) announced the Wildcats’ 2010 schedule, featuring a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Miller Park in Milwaukee.
After playing games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome (Minnesota Twins) and U.S. Cellular Field (Chicago White Sox) last season, the Wildcats can add a visit to another Major League ballpark to their resume. The twinbill against UWM will be played April 28 following a 12:10 p.m. game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist University head baseball coach Jared Moon announced his team’s 55-game 2010 schedule Wednesday, which features 21 games at Husky Field.
“I’m excited about 21 home games after only 10 last year,” Moon said. “It’s nice to play at home, where we have a record of success.

We continue the list today with number 43 in our countdown with Coastal Carolina junior LHP Cody Wheeler. He is from Spotsylvania, Va.where he attended Spotsylvania High School. He has a strong senior season as he went 10-2 with a 1.59 earned-run average and hit .529 with 24 RBI. He set a school record with 112 strikeouts on the mound while opponents hit just .123 off of him.
