Ragin Cajuns read to Elementary Schools

RaginCajuns University of Louisiana student-athletes from all sports recently participated in a bus tour to promote literacy and give back to their former elementary schools last week.

While riding on the Ragin’ Cajuns-wrapped Calco bus, student-athletes visited elementary schools in the Acadiana area and read Jady Regard’s book Born to Be a Ragin’ Cajunto the elementary school students.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 38 Addison Reed (San Diego State)

AddisonReedHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 38 in our countdown with junior RHP Addison Reed of San Diego State. He is from Rancho Cucamonga California and attended Los Osos High School. He played four seasons under Anthony Vasquez where he mostly played first base until his junior season when he got a chance on the mound. As a senior he ended up splitting time on the mound and at first base. His senior season saw him bat .446 with 10 doubles, 13 home runs and 34 RBI while on the mound he went 5-1 with a 2.53 earned run average including 33 strikeouts with nine walks.

Ole Miss Assistant Rob Reinstetle Resigns and Players Dismissed

CoachBiancoOleMiss The Ole Miss Baseball program is going through a state of transition right now with the news that assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle has resigned to spend more time with his family. He is expected to be replaced volunteer coach Matt Mossberg who will move into the full-time assistant position and Director of Baseball Operations Rob Francis will move to the volunteer assistant position. Pitching Coach Carl Lafferty will move into the recruiting coordinator position. Coach Mike Bianco states the following "I am very excited about the future of our program and the opportunities this presents for both Matt Mossberg and Rob Francis, they are both great coaches and two guys who are very deserving of this opportunity." The other big news out of Oxford is that Zach Lowery and Evan Frazar have been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules.

Pacific releases 2010 Schedule

PacificPhoto Stockton, Calif. – Head coach Ed Sprague has unveiled the 2010 Pacific baseball schedule, set to begin with a home series against San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field.

This season the Tigers will host 29 contests at home and hit the road for 26. New to the 2010 schedule include match-ups against Seattle, Notre Dame, Bradley, USC and Santa Clara.

Strasburg gives back to San Diego State

StrasburgSDSU SAN DIEGO – Stephen Strasburg, the national player of the year and first selection in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the Washington Nationals, has made a $141,000 contribution to San Diego State Athletics to benefit the baseball program.

Strasburg’s commitment will allow SDSU to upgrade the surface of Tony Gwynn Stadium. New synthetic turf will replace the grass skirting from dugouts to baselines. In addition, the gift will aid the operation of the Aztec baseball program.

Arkansas State releases 2010 Schedule

(12/11/09) – Thirty-one home games, including 15 Sun Belt Conference matchups and a home clash with perennial national power Ole Miss highlight the schedule for the 2010 Arkansas State baseball season, which gets underway Feb. 19 when the Red Wolves host Southern Illinois in a three-game series at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 39 Yasmani Grandal (Miami, FL)

Yasmani Grandal Miami The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 39 in our countdown with Miami switch hitting junior catcher Yasmani Grandal. He is from Miami where he attended Miami Springs High School. As a senior, he hit .447 with 48 RBI and 13 HRs as he was named Miami Herald’s Class 6A Hitter of the Year, AFLAC High School All-American, and a second team ABCA/Rawlings High School All-American. Baseball America named him the 19th best high school prospect heading into the 2007 MLB Draft. The Boston Red Sox selected him in the 27th round but could not come to terms with him.

St. Joe’s signs nine for 2010-2011 Season

FritzHamburg PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s head coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the signing of nine student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The new additions will come to Hawk Hill in time for the start of the 2011 season.

Included in the class are catcher Nuri Gunes, infielders Spencer Judge, Kevin Kratochwill, and Michael Muha, and pitchers Jordan Carter, Brett Koliani, Taylor Mahoney, Danny Thorpe, and Jimmy Yacabonis.

James Madison signs Seven for 2010-2011 Season

SpankyMcFarlandJMU HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 13, 2009 – James Madison baseball head coach Spanky McFarland announced today the signing of seven student-athletes to national letters of intent to join the Diamond Dukes for the 2010-2011 academic year.

“We’re extremely happy with the guys we’re bringing in this year,” commented McFarland, who will coach his 13th season at JMU in 2010. “They fit the general qualities that we look for in our players. They’re all athletic. They come from winning programs. They’re all leaders in their schools and in their communities. They are the type of people that we like here with JMU baseball.”

Texas AM-Corpus Christi releases 2010 Schedule

TexasAMCC2010Schedule The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team has announced a challenging 56-game schedule that includes four Big 12 teams and one team each from the Southeastern Conference, Pac-10, and Conference USA. The Islanders will once again host the Southland Conference Tournament at Whataburger Field May 26-29.

Aside from a 33-game Southland Conference slate, the Islanders will take on Texas and Texas Tech twice, Nebraska, and Oklahoma from the Big 12. They will face UCLA and Mississippi State in the 2010 version of the Whataburger College Classic. Earlier in the season, A&M-Corpus Christi will participate in the Rice Invitational and returns for a single game in mid-April.

Memphis releases 2010 Schedule

DaronSchoenrockMemphis The 2010 edition of Memphis baseball faces another demanding schedule that will showcase 29 home games, including 13 contests versus NCAA Regional participants, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced today.

"Staying with the promise to our athletes and Tiger fans, this is another very challenging college baseball schedule," Schoenrock stated. "Conference USA weekend series’ are very tough and our non-conference schedule is designed to prepare the team for these weekends. Strength of schedule is a huge factor in developing the RPI necessary to make the NCAA Regionals. I look forward to seeing the 2010 Tiger team attack this schedule and the challenges that await us."

Top 100 Countdown: Number 40 Kole Calhoun (Arizona State)

We continue the list today with number 40 in our countdown with Arizona State senior outfielder Kole Calhoun. He is from Buckeye Arizona and attended Buckeye High School where he was a four year letter winner while being named All-State twice. He was also named Skyline Region player of the year in 2006 and West Valley player of the year in 2005.
