SEC to use Pitch Clock in 2010 Tourney

SEC LOGO According to multiple sources, SEC Athletic Directors have approved the use of a 20 second pitch clock during the 2010 SEC Tournament. The goal of the clock is to shorten games and make them more fan and TV friendly.

I remember watching last season a game from the SEC Tournament at around 1 AM eastern time and could not believe that they were still on.

Oral Roberts signs Eight for 2010-2011 Season

OralRoberts TULSA—Oral Roberts University head baseball coach Rob Walton recently announced the signing of eight future student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent.

Among the recruits are five junior college signees and three high school players. The 2010 class includes: 1B/LHPArt Charles (Bakersfield College), 1B/P Brad Fisher (Jenks (Okla.) HS), RHP Alex Gonzalez (Boca Raton (Fla.) Community HS), OF Brandon King (Fresno City College), RHP Aaron Kurcz (College of Southern Nevada), RHP Joey Perez (Corpus Christi (Texas) John Paul II HS), INF Joe Ramirez (Bakersfield College) and INF Cam Shiller (Yavapai College).

“I’m really pleased with our fall class,” said Walton. “(Assistant coach) Ryan Neill did a great job of identifying several high ceiling kids including a few power arms. The entire class will have a chance to have an immediate impact on the field, especially the pitchers.”

Top 100 Countdown: Number 32 Mike McGee (Florida State)

MikeMcGeeFSU The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 32 in our countdown with Florida State junior Mike McGee. He is from Port St. Lucie, FL where he attended Port St. Lucie High School. He served as a utility player in high school where he hit over .400 in three straight seasons. He was an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore and second team All-State as a Junior.

URI signs Seven for 2010-2011 School Year

URISigningDays KINGSTON, R.I. – Head coach Jim Foster has announced that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Rhode Island baseball program, beginning in the fall of 2010.

"This group is part of a very talented class which we feel is one of the best classes to ever sign at URI. All of these guys were recruited by top national programs. They are good student-athletes from good families. They’re hungry to get better, not afraid to work and have a ton of upside. We have filled our needs with some young talented position players and some top quality arms that will make an impact early on. I really do believe that these guys will be a huge part of our success and will help us make future runs at Atlantic 10 Championship, regional appearances and the ultimate goal of getting to the College World Series in Omaha."

East Valley Tribune checks in on ASU Situation

Murphy Scott Bordow of The East Valley Tribune wrote an interesting editorial on the Pat Murphy situation after the correct allegations about a potential major NCAA infraction. Mr. Bordow states that it is Pat Murphy’s fault and no one else is responsible if the allegations come true. I tend to disagree as I believe that the Athletic Department needs to be overlooking the athletic programs more closely.

Western Illinois releases 2010 Schedule

WesternIllinois MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois head baseball coach Mike Villano announced the 2010 baseball schedule, Thursday, Dec. 17.

The Fighting Leathernecks will face three opponents who participated in the 2009 NCAA Baseball Tournament including last year’s Big XII runner-up, the Oklahoma Sooners. Western’s schedule also features four teams ranked in the top 50 of the 2010 preseason RPI including the Sooners (22), Oklahoma State (25), Oral Roberts (32) and Missouri (33).

Top 100 Countdown: Number 33 Brett Eibner (Arkansas)

BrettEibner The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 33 in our countdown with Arkansas junior RHP/outfielder Brett Eibner. He graduated from The Woodlands High School. During his senior season, he hit .417 with six home runs and 15 RBI while going 5-0 on the mound with a 2.80 ERA including 58 strikeouts. He picked up several honors after his senior season including being named 15-5A first-team all-district outfielder and third-team 5A All-State by the Texas Sports Writers’ Association. He was selected in the 2007 MLB Draft in the fourth round by the Houston Astros but decided to head to Arkansas.

Old Dominion announces 2010-2011 Recruiting Class

OldDominion NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University head baseball coach Jerry Meyers announced the signing of the 2010-11 recruiting class to national letters of intent. Meyers and the rest of the ODU coaching staff will welcome Joey Burney (INF, Gloucester HS, Gloucester, Va.), Cody Cox (RHP, Grassfield HS, Chesapeake, Va.), Brandon Stahl (INF, St. Dominic HS, Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Ben Verlander (RHP/INF, Goochland HS, Goochland, Va.) , Gary Ward (LHP, Pitt Community College/Hickory HS, Chesapeake, Va.) and Ty Yesensky (INF, Maine-Endwell HS, Endwell, N.Y.) to play for the Monarchs in the 2010-11 season.

NCAA accuses Arizona State Baseball of Rules Violations

ASULogo The Arizona Republic has obtained documents that Arizona State was sent a notice of allegations on November 19th the day before Pat Murphy abruptly resigned. This goes against what Lisa Love stated when the resignation became public on November 20th. The notice states that ASU is facing nine violations including a key one that the university lacks institutional control. If ASU is found guilty in this case, it will be the ninth major violation since 1953 which ties them with SMU who had the football program cut for three years in the mid-80’s.

TCUSchlossnagle College Baseball Today writer Eric Sorenson recently sat down to TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle to discuss many different topics. One of the topics discussed is the TCU football program and how they were shafted out of the BCS. Coach Schlossnagle also talks about how he has to sell college baseball to his potential student-athletes like how one of the top incoming freshmen in the country with Matt Purke ended up in Fort Worth.

Oklahoma State releases 2010 Schedule

TomBelzaOkState Twelve NCAA Tournament teams from 2009 highlight Oklahoma State’s 2010 baseball schedule, which was released today.

"It’s a challenging schedule, and we’re going to face some great competition that will really test us," said OSU head coach Frank Anderson, who is entering his seventh season with the Cowboys. "We continue to upgrade our schedule, and this schedule will be one of the toughest we’ve had and one that should allow us to do well in the RPI."
