2010 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American Team

anthony-ranaudo TUCSON, Ariz. — The 2010 Louisville Slugger pre-season All-American baseball teams, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features a who’s who of NCAA Division I baseball players.

The pre-season pick as National Player of The Year is RHP Anthony Ranaudo of Louisiana St. The 6-foot-7, 231-pounder is expected to be a high first round pick in next June’s Free Agent Draft after striking out 159 batters in 124 1/3 innings last season with only 50 walks as he posted a 12-3 record and a 3.04 ERA.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 29 Sam Dyson (South Carolina)

SamDysonHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 29 with South Carolina redshirt junior RHP Sam Dyson. He is from Tampa Florida where he attended Tampa Jesuit High School where he was a four year letter winners. He went 10-1 as a senior while picking up Sunbelt Player of the Year award. He was selected in the 19th round of the 2006 draft by the Washington Nationals.

2010 Collegiate Baseball Top 40 Preseason Poll

BrandonWorkmanTexas TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Texas is the pre-season favorite to capture the 2010 College World Series, according to Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I pre-season baseball poll.

The Longhorns, which finished second at the College World Series last year, are absolutely loaded with superb pitching, including three Louisville Slugger pre-season All-Americans in RHP Taylor Jungmann (11-3, 2.00 ERA, 101 K, 35 BB), RHP Chance Ruffin (10-2, 115 K, 25 BB) and RHP Cole Green (5-3, 3.34 ERA, 85 K, 34 BB, who is expected to be drafted in the first three rounds of next June’s Free Agent Draft).

Top 100 Countdown: Number 30 Micah Gibbs (LSU)

MicahGibbsLSU The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 30 with LSU junior catcher Micah Gibbs. He is from Pflugerville, Texas where he graduated from Pflugerville High School. He never actually played high school baseball at Pflugerville High School because he transferred to the school before his senior season. According to Texas transfer rules, he was not ineligible to play. He was named a Rawlings High School All-American and Rawlings Pre-Season All-Region team member even without his eligibility. He won all-state, all-county and all-district honors as a sophomore and junior at Leander High. In his junior season, he hit .500 with eight homers and 34 RBI while having a career batting average of .408 including 13 homers.

Albany Baseball Team Supports ALS and Breast Cancer Research

AlbanyBaseball Albany, N.Y. – The UAlbany baseball team supported ALS and Breast Cancer Research organizations by participating in two local walks held in the Capital Region last weekend.

The Great Danes gathered at Saratoga State Park for the 8th Annual Walk to Strike Out ALS, which raises funds and awareness for  the ALS Regional Center at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is a progressive, fatal, neuromuscular disease caused by the degeneration of motor neurons. About 7,000 people in the United States are diagnosed each year and 30,000 Americans live with the disease at any given time. Most are given a prognosis of two to five years to live.

Columbia Partners with Level the Field at Local Middle School

ColumbiaBaseball NEW YORK – During the fall semester, the Columbia Baseball team has spent its Thursday afternoons with sixth-graders at the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS), just a quick subway ride away from the Morningside Heights campus.

Each week, the team was given a general lesson plan that included sharing career and personal goals.  The players also talked baseball, including how to show good sportsmanship and the nuances of the game, such as how many fingers a catcher signals to a pitcher for a fastball or a curveball.

South Alabama Players and Diamond Girls help Salvation Army

Lobo Baseball visits La Familia Inc.

4087533 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In spirit of the holiday season six members of the Lobo baseball team took time out of their finals week schedule to pass on some cheer and goodwill to the children of La Familia Inc on Dec. 11. Head coach Ray Birmingham was also in attendance along with players Alex Allbritton, Kenny Held,Ryan Honeycutt, Rafael Neda, John Michael Twitchell, and Justin Howard.

Georgetown Volunteers at 2009 Greater Washington Heart Walk

GUVolunteer Washington, D.C. – Recently the Georgetown University baseball team participated in the American Heart Association’s 2009 Start! Greater Washington Heart Walk. The student athletes were placed along the 2.9-mile muddy loop that circled the National Mall.  The team braved cold temperatures to volunteer and help raise funds and awareness in the fight against the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers-heart disease and stroke. They joined a large gathering of other participants and helped the event raise over a million dollars in donations.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 31 Taylor Jungmann (Texas)

TaylorJungmannTexas The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 31 in our countdown with Texas RHP Taylor Jungmann. He is from Temple, Texas where he attended Georgetown High School for one year and Rogers High School for three seasons. In his senior season, he had a record of 14-0 with a 0.77 ERA, 153 K’s and four shutouts. He was honored as the Class 5A Player of the Year by TSWA, Central Texas Player of the Year, Gatorade Texas Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Texas Player of the Year, and on the Baseball America High School All-American First Team. Jungmann was selected in the 24th round of the 2008 MLB Draft but decided to head to Texas.
