Delaware State signs two

Dover, Del. (Dec. 7, 2009) —  Delaware State University head baseball coach J.P. Blandin has announced that two high school seniors have committed to attend DSU during the early signing period.

Blandin says Polytech (Del.) High School pitcher Matt McClain and outfielder Tyon Ore of Norfolk, Va., have signed to compete for the Hornets beginning in the 2010-11 season.

McClain, a right hander, posted a 6-3 record with a 1.69 earned run average as a junior at Polytech last season. He was also credited with two saves, 63 strikeouts and just 11 walks.

Arizona State releases 2010 Schedule

JoshSpenceASU Arizona State Baseball will begin its quest for its sixth National Championship and 22nd trip to Omaha and the College World Series on February 19th when the Sun Devils host the Northern Illinois Huskies at Winkles Field- Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark in the 2010 Season Opener. Announced today by head coach Tim Esmay, the 2010 schedule features 35 games at Packard Stadium, including two non-conference match-ups with in-state rival Arizona on April 20 and May 4.

Interview with Lubbock Christian Coach Nathan Blackwood

NathanBlackwood2 Nathan Blackwood is going into his seventh season as Head Coach of the defending NAIA Champion Lubbock Christian Chaparrals. His career record is 281-89. He played for the Chaparrals as an undergraduate, and also coached at Harding University.

Bob Broughton, The College Baseball Blog: The defending NAIA champion is someone other than Lewis-Clark State this year. Has this idea caught on in Lubbock yet?

Nathan Blackwood, Lubbock Christian: I think so. The Lubbock community has always been extremely supportive of LCU Baseball and has really done a good job of welcoming and recognizing these student athletes. This is a baseball town and has been for a long time. The people here can really appreciate an accomplishment like this.

North Florida releases 2010 Schedule

rp_primary_08BBvsUPST_Rhodes JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team announced its 2010 schedule. The 56-game schedule features 30 home games, including seven home games against teams that competed in the 2009 NCAA Regionals.

The Ospreys boast a solid nonconference schedule to compliment its Atlantic Sun Conference slate. Outside of conference, North Florida plays schools from perennial powers, such as the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big East and Conference USA. Four schools on the schedule finished the 2009 season ranked or receiving votes in one of the final baseball polls.

CBB Column: Top 5 Candidates for Arizona State

ASULogo Here are my Top Five choices to take over the Arizona State baseball program for the 2011 season if I was in Lisa Love’s position. Tim Esmay was named the Interim head coach for the 2010 season on December 3rd. The new coach will have to deal with potential NCAA or university sanctions from an ongoing investigation into the baseball program. This might end up pushing some candidates away from the job.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 44 Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State)

ToddCunninghamJaxState The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 44 in our countdown with Jacksonville State junior outfielder Todd Cunningham. He is from Jacksonville (AL) High School where he played five years of high school baseball under David Deerman, Michael Graben and Rusty Burroughs. He finished his high school career with a .446 batting average with 216 runs scored and 112 stolen bases for the Golden Eagles. In his senior season, he hit .430 with 66 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .593. He picked up several honors in high school as he was named a three-time first-team All-State selection (2005, 2006, 2007) and named second-team All-State in 2004 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Western Carolina visits the Eliada Home

San Francisco Baseball helps in Community Events

SanFranMarathon The USF baseball team volunteered in several community service events this fall. Some highlights include the Nike Women’s Marathon and the FCA Pro and College Baseball Youth Challenge.

During the Nike Women’s Marathon the team shared their encouragement at the finish line where they handed out thousands of t-shirts to finishers. One lady commented on the team’s performance and said, "It really makes a difference to see familiar, friendly faces, and to be recognized and encouraged by volunteers. I had a great race, and the participation of you and your volunteers was no small part of that. Many thanks!"

New Mexico Senior raises money for Breast Cancer

MaxWilletNewMexico ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Lobo baseball centerfielder Max Willet turned what was a class group project into an event that helped raise over $2,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Willet, a business major, is currently enrolled in the Anderson School of Management at New Mexico. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native and a group of fellow students put on an event on Nov. 19 called, "Bingo for Breast Cancer" which included 10 rounds of bingo, a silent auction and a raffle that lasted the entire evening.

Alabama Baseball holds X-Mass Party

BamaXMASParty TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama baseball team kicked off the holiday season by hosting a Christmas party Wednesday afternoon at the Sprayberry Education Center in Tuscaloosa.

Sprayberry is the special education facility for the Tuscaloosa County School System and serves the needs of children in five different programs, including preschool, multiple disabilities, autism, alternative and TARGET, for gifted education.
