Top 100 Countdown: Number 26 Trevor Bauer (UCLA)

TrevorBauerUCLAHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 26 in our countdown with UCLA sophomore RHP Trevor Bauer. He is from Valencia California and attended Hart High School. He ended up picking up two letters as he had an outstanding junior season which saw him go 12-0 with a 0.79 ERA while striking out 106 batters and walking 15 in 70.2 innings. As a junior, he earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I honors and first-team All-Southern Section accolades from the California Baseball Coaches Association (CBCA).

 

Bauer made an immediate impact in the UCLA rotation as he appeared in 20 games with 10 starts. He finished the season with a 9-3 overall record and an ERA of 2.99. He throwing four complete games with two saves. He ended up striking out 92 batters in 105.1 innings of work. He did struggle with his control as he walked 27 batters, tossed 10 wild pitches, hit nine batters, and balking on four occasions. He earned earned National Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper while being named a First Team Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Baseball America, and NCBWA. He also was named the Freshman Pitcher of the Year in the Pac-10 conference while also being named to the All-Conference team.

He played the summer of 2009 with the USA Collegiate National Team where he made five appearances including three starts. He had a record of 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA. He totaled 24 strikeouts while giving up seven walks in 17.1 innings of work. Bauer limited opponents to a .213 average against. His best performance came against Guatemala when he pitched a complete game shutout while striking out 13 batters in a 18-0 Team USA victory.
