Quinnipiac signs Three for 2010-2011 Season

QURecruits HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University baseball head coach Dan Gooley has announced National Letter of Intents from Ryan Walsh (Stanford, Conn.), Nicholas Fabrizio (Peabody, Mass.) and Michael Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.). Walsh and Fabrizio, a pair of right-handed pitchers, and Blumenthal, an outfielder, will join the Bobcats for the 2011 season.

"I am extremely pleased and excited to have three outstanding student-athletes joining our family at Quinnipiac University," Dan Gooley said.

Walsh, a 6-5, 205 lbs., right-handed pitcher, comes to Quinnipiac from Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford, Conn. As a junior in 2009, Walsh was 8-4 with 94 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings pitched. Walsh scattered 63 hits in that span, allowing 38 runs of which 18 were earned for a 1.64 earned-run average. Walsh was named to the All-FCIAC First Team, the All-Stamford City First Team and the Connecticut All-State Second Team.

Fabrizio, who pitched for St. John’s Prep School in Danvers, Mass., is a 6-1, 175 lbs., right-handed pitcher. In 2009, Fabrizio posted a 4-1 record with 24 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. He allowed 26 runs, 12 earned, for a 3.85 ERA. Elected as a captain for the upcoming 2010 season as a senior, Fabrizio received the St. John’s Prep Baseball Sportsmanship Award last season while also earning Academic Honor Roll distinction.

Blumenthal played at Half Hollows Hill West (N.Y.) where he hit .431 (25-58) as a junior in 2009. The 5-11, 170 lbs., outfielder belted three homeruns, 15 RBI and five doubles. Blumenthal drew 14 walks while also stealing 13 bases. Over his three-year career, Blumenthal was a member of to the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society while also earning the 2009 Academic Scholar Athlete Award.

Quinnipiac opens the season on Mar. 5-7 with a three-game series in Raleigh, N.C., against North Carolina State. It then heads to Durham, N.C., to face Duke in a two-game set on Mar. 9-10. The Bobcats close out their early-season, North Atlantic swing at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on Mar. 12-13.
