HunterMorrisHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 37 in our countdown with Auburn junior infielder Hunter Morris. He is from Huntsville Alabama where he attended Grissom High School where he was a five year letterwinner for Adam Moseley. He had a career .470 average with 46 homers and 198 RBI. In his senior season, Morris hit .476 as a senior with 13 home runs and 44 RBI while scoring 67 runs. He won several awards including a four-time Huntsville City Player of the Year, North Alabama Super Metro Player of the Year and Alabama 6A All-State Player. He was also named an All-American by AFLAC, Rawlings, BCA and PlayStation. The Boston Red Sox selected him in the second round of the 2008 MLB Draft but could not come to agreement with him.

Hunter made an immediate impact at Auburn University by leading the team in many offensive categories in his first campaign. He ended up leading the team in average (.351) and hits (74). He also finished second on the team with eleven homers and 49 RBI. He was outstanding in the field by not making an error in 384 putouts and 26 assists.

After the collegiate season was over, Hunter tried out for the USA National Team where he ended up being selected to the team. He ended up playing in 19 games with ten starts. He finished the summer with a .270 average with three homers and nine RBI. The team ended up finishing the summer with a perfect 24-0 record with HunterMorrisActionShot picking up titles at the Haarlem Baseball Week with two victories over the Cuban Olympic Team and FISU Tournament in the Czech Republic.

We had a chance to see Hunter at the Team USA trials when the team toured New England. I personally saw him against the North Shore Spirit where he went 2-5 with a run scored. My full report from that day is available by clicking here. Jarred Amato who covers the SEC for us saw Hunter when Team USA continued their New England tour by visiting the Newport Gulls. His full report can be read by clicking here.

Morris had a disappointing sophomore season where he only hit .282 with 12 homers and 33 RBI in 50 games while slugging .503. He spent the summer of 2009 in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Falmouth Commodores. He finished the summer of 2009 with a .239 average while finishing second in the league with eight homers. He also drove in 19 runs while scoring 16 runs. Baseball America rated him the 24th best prospect in the Cape Cod Baseball League after the season was over.

We talked with an amateur scout who considers him one of the hardest workers on the field and seems committed to becoming a better all around player. I find this hard to believe since Morris already was a second round pick by the Boston Red Sox out of high school and the only way he can get drafted higher is in the first round. We should see what happens when Morris gets drafted again in 2010.
